Hi All,

I will try posting this for the third time. ( Third time lucky as they say).

It was great to see the piece that I made for my better half displayed on here, thank to whoever posted this?

When I was scanning this to be placed on my pics I also had another job to do placing a bail on a half sovereign for a friend or maybe its a sovereign? not sure.

Anyways he wanted this for his daughter, he also asked if I knew what this would be worth and I m not sure so you may be able to assist with this.

I have included a pic of this and if you know please let me know so I can then inform him when he comes to colect this on Friday.

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Trevor.

Hi Trevor,

Since the pendant looked so good I thought it deserved a display at the top of the site.
You certainly have a talent for making gold jewellery.
When I find enough decent pieces I may have a go at doing it myself.

Cheers

Hi Trevor,

Probably worth around $500 depending on its condition.

A good guide can be found here...

http://www.aussiecoins.com/proclamation.html

Scroll down to the bottom of this page.

I have been watching them on Ebay over here in the UK and they go for around £200 or more.
Cheers,
Dennis

Hi Dennis,

I checked out the web page you included which seemed to give a better price for it than what I first saw when I did a search where it reckoned it was about 65 english pounds but I'm still not certain what it is either a half Sovereign or just a sovereign, but I will inform him on both prices.

Thanks,
Trevor.

Hi Trevor

A half sovereign is 19mm in dia and weighs 3.9940 grams. A full sovereign is 21.5mm in dia and weighs 7.9881 grams.

As for value it depends on where they were minted, eg: Sydney, Melbourne, Perth etc, and wether it is an Australian or Brittish or Canadian coin etc.

If it is Australian it wil have a small letter above the date, eg "s" for Sydney "m" for Melbourne or "p" for Perth, otherwise it could be Brittish for example.

Once you know these details it will help to look up the value.

Hi Dave,

This is approx 25 mm in dia and weighs 10 grams, this in part is due to the holder that incases it plus the bail.

Scanned at 2400 DPI it seems to have what looks like BP at the end of the date.

Other than this there is no other identifying marks to assist in valuing.

So I will inform Jack it could be anywhere from $500 to 65 pounds Brittish, either way it seems a bit over the top for his 10 year old daughter to be wearing around as a casual piece as it could be easily lost.

But many thanks for your information.

Cheers,
Trevor.

Hi TWA,

My Mrs took my half sovereign to the jewelers for valuation. He said that mine was a fake! I've looked at it closely and it looks real to me. Maybe they were trying to pull the wool over her thighs.
Looking online reveals that through the years many fakes were made, some better than others.
