I need to know what everyone thinks im trying to find work at the moment because im one of the lucky ones to have there jobs taken from them GREAT, and no matter what I do its hard to find work at the moment and im running out of money.

One of the things I have still of value is a detecter and most of my detecting has been done has been in victoria with not much luck I remmeber one guy I meet said to me if I really wanted to find gold to go to w.a then something about finding about $2000 is what people average a week there ?I know lots of people would not be that lucky.

Anyway so at the moment im saving up some money so I can drive from melbourne to kal in my vt commadore stay up there for about 1 month or so and sort of wing it taking it slow the first week or so getting information and taking it from there, Can I make a small living from detecting up in kal. Am I going out it all the wrong way ? As you can see im a little lost at the moment what do you think?

Take care and thanx for now. ;)

Hello again MalteseImperium,

I dont like your odds. I've detected around Vic as well and like yourself I never had much luck. Found a little gold and a $1000 half penny, that my son later destroyed with a hammer. So far detecting has cost me lots of money and will probably cost me thousands more before I start finding something meaningful. Just to get over to WA will cost, if your car breaks down it could put you out of action. If you do make it you have to find an area to detect. Many areas have been claimed so thats not easy anymore. Realistically no body is going to tell you where the the gold is, only where it was. You'll be taking a big risk, and you may not find anything for weeks.

There is one goldmine that will pay out on a regular basis. It's called The Keven 747 gold mine or social security to some. The Gov is also spending billions on roads and infrastructure. There could be work fixing roads or building.

There's really nothing more I can think of. Hopefully other members of this forum will be more helpful.

Good luck to you
Dave ;)

Hi MalteseImperium,

I don't know where that guy got the idea that you can get an average $2000.00 a week here in W.A. by metal detecting for gold?????? :$ :$
Some may be lucky enough but as Gold Dreamer said it all comes down to chance. You have to spend a lot of time researching
areas where gold has been found & what is going on in that area now.
This will definately lower the odds but there is no guarantee that you will find any & definately no guarantee that you will earn
enough to make a living out of it when you consider the costs involved in looking for it.
I spend thousands of dollars prospecting & most of the time get little in return. I do it because it is my hobby & I enjoy the solitude
of the bush & its surrounding flora & forna.
There are a lot of people prospecting in the Kalgoorlie & Eastern Goldfields at present so I would recommend that while you still
have money in your pocket look for meaningful work where you are. If you try hard enough you will always find a job.
Hope this helps.

Cheers

Ted

hi guys and girls,
Yer i guess your right it would be silly for me do that, it would be very hard and i dont trust the car i dont even think i would get there.

But i now have a job and i would like to still go up to kal for a detecting holiday maybe at the end of july so plans have changed now i will be flying from melbourne to perth then from perth flying to kal then hiring a car and i will be staying at the prospector holiday park for 18 day.

i will not be going to kal to find my fortune of gold im not taking that atitude anymore im going to try to learn about the area, research what i can while im there and take it from there but i really would love to find a nice 1oz piece thats not much to ask for.

bye and take care for now. ;)

Hi MalteseImperium,

That sounds like the plan.

If you see a man who looks like Clint Eastwood riding a large painted stallion, that'll be me.

Good luck my friend ;)

Hi MalteseImperium,

A wise decision. I'm sure you will enjoy the trip more this way & not be worrying where
your next dollar is coming from.

Hey Louis

Never lose your dream though!

Pin a picture of the person you want to be and the gold you are going to find on you mirror - then imagine you are there!!!

You will get there in the end if thats what you really want - because your sub conscious will guide you in the things you need to do to get there.

As long as you know that there is a degree of skills you need to develop in research, practise and perseverence. Sometimes you have to do the apprenticeship to gain the skills. Keep an open mind and learn something off everyone you meet out detecting, most people are very willing to share their knowledge (But not their spots!)

But never lose your dream. You'll find the gold eventually.

All the best and enjoy your trip to WA, I sincerely hope you find a big one

Bill
