Dick was walking around & wondered why a ladder was in the shaft, he never heard a sound so was amazed
to see these poor goats!! Note there is a rung missing near lower part of the ladder which made it difficult
getting up & down with a goat attached.....he raced back to our van, grabbed a strong rope, went into shaft,
put rope tightly around one goats horns, climbed out of shaft & dragged the goats out one by one. All does'
& one had given birth to the kid!! Only one goat struggled but the others were too weak.

Unfortunately the family & I were well away detecting so we didn't help & not there to get more pics...Dick
had camera with him to take this pic. Dick removed that ladder!!

It would be interesting to hear how YOU think these goats may have ended up in the shaft????????

Dick said another shaft close by had some water in it & wondering if they went to wrong one!

If they climbed down the ladder, I am wondering why they couldn't climb backup the ladder?????

Cheers,

Kath

I think there could be a Middle Eastern Goat Smuggling Racket going on.
Your Dick is lucky to be alive.
If the goats weren't considered a pest, I'd be awarding your Dick the "Humanitarian of the Year Award"
Your Dick should be placed up on a pedestal for all to see!

Hi Kath

I was listening to a pastoralist from Leanora on the country hour the other day who normally musters wild goats on his property and sells them.

He was lamenting that this year its not worth mustering them because wild dogs have killed so many its not economical to muster them in the samller numbers on his property.

Could it be that wild dogs chased them to the pit and they climbed down to save themselves but the dogs were not prepared to follow?.

The ladder could have already been there used by a prospector to look into the pit? Who knows.

But it does show you what a nice bloke Dick is!

HI BILL,

THAT CERTAINLY COULD BE A POSSIBILITY, WOULD NEVER HAVE THOUGHT OF THAT BILL.

WE HEARD DOGS OR DINGOS WHINING ON QUITE A FEW NIGHTS, ONCE SOUNDED VERY CLOSE TO OUR CAMPS.
ALSO WE SAW RATHER LARGE PAW PRINTS WHILE DETECTING. WOULD NOT LIKE TO MEET UP WITH THOSE
WILD DOGS!!...IT WAS BAD ENOUGH HAVING A MID-SIZE BUNGARRA COME AFTER US GIRLS" AGAIN THE HUBBY CAME
TO THE RESCUE! HMM HE COMES IN HANDY AT THESE MOMENTS. ;)

HOPE YOU & SUE ARE STILL HAVING A GREAT TIME...DID YOU READ WE TRIED TO FIND YOU AT SANDSTONE
CARAVAN PARK A COUPLE OF TIMES?

CHEERS,
KATH
