Hi all, Being new to the forum I,m impressed by the generosity of the members providing so much imformation on all aspects of detecting and making the forum interesting.More than enough for the new chum to absorb!! I detected in the Cue area in April for 10 days and managed to bag 6 very small pieces totalling aprox 4-5 g ms. strangely, 5 pieces were in an aprox straight line running north/south over 150 meters.Try as I may , I could not find the big parents of the 5 little darlings! The outing of the forum members sounded like good fun and i would be very interested in any future events. regards Johnf

hi Kath, I am very new to detecting and only other outing was 2 days in Clermont couple of years back.iwas kind to other detectorists and did not remove a speck of gold! Aprox 30 years ago i went to Widgiemooltha with my father-in-law(who had prospected there before ww2). i took aborrowed whitesor garret but did not use it much as my f.i.l. just wanted to recall the old days ,and i thought i could detect at a latter date. i did,nt think it would be quite so long between drinks so i have lots of time to make up for.i am using a3000ml which i had modded and found most of the little bits with the sensitive mod on,but some areas it seemed to make it a bit noisey.but being inexperienced i cannot make any definite comments at the moment. what machine do you use and were you self taught re downloading maps, waypoints etc? i,m not computer savvy arnd it seems alittle daunting and am looking at doing some course.regards john

hi john, i am lucky these days that i had the guidance of a son BUT before that i worked for years...tried to!!... with a worn-out 1700..my hubby had to keep soldiering it as wires kept breaking. Anyway because I love the outdoors sooo much i kept going..yep some said i am nuts!!!! but these days are a different story :D I am using the gpx 4500 & very happy with that..i was with the 4000 also!! It is a case of having faith & keep going!! I never sit & dwell about what I no doubt left in the ground!!!!! Yes i can do tengraph & some of the research but like I said our son is the brain!! It sure takes time to learn..a bit at the time is the way to go.

Look forward to hearing of your trips etc & good hunting.

cheers,
Kath
