Hi Bards Lot of people use headphones if the wind is to noisy,it can be a pest, personally i hate wearing them but sometimes you just have to if you want to detect in strong winds. EMI is caused by atmospheric conditions not just lightning, but lightning will cause problems weather you can see it or not. PS The only time I wear headphones is sitting around the campfire with Alan, the wind over his way is deafining

Hi Bards, Lightening can cause interference hundreds of kilometres away. Strange as it may seem strong wind also plays havoc when using the big open mono coils, I can not comment whether the same applies with DD or closed coils. Almost always use external speakers now, one on each shoulder and when wearin a wide brimmed hat (reflects the sound) the threshold can still be heard under most conditions. When all else fails give up and try another day. When I used to use headphones and the wind picked up, a beanie slipped over head & phones made detecting possible. Of course this method is only possible in cooler weather. I gave the headphones away due to constant ear infections due I think to the constant moisture inside my ears. Cheers Peter |
