Hello members,
Have been contacted by a journalist (Jeroen van Bergeijk) seeking help to put a documentary together about the life of a gold prospector.
He is hoping to visit the Kalgoorlie area early in November and spend some time out in the goldfields to get a first hand feel.
Jeroen's details can be found in accompanying emails.

G'day Peter!

Thanks for your quick reply. Of course you should check me out, I'll alway do the same.
I took already a good look at the first forum you mentioned, maybe I stumbled onto your website over there.

You have me worried a bit.
Do you mean to say that there wont be any people out detecting in november. I understood that november was about the last month still possible. I was planning to go to the area around Kalgoorlie / Coolgardie. Aren't the temperatures less extreme out there (as opposed to the more northernly part of Western Australia)?

If there's nobody out there around the first half of november there's not much use for me to go. But that would be a problem for me, having counted on doing this work in november.

Anyway, could you help me with me to locate some people in the Kalgoorlie area, serious amateur or professional prospectors who would be interested in talking to me for my documentary and articles??

Thanks so much in advance,

I'll try to give you a call this monday or tuesday

Cheers,
Jeroen

Evening Jeroen,
Because of the amount of spam in this day and age I took the liberty to Google your bio and am happy with results proving your email to be genuine.

My website is sadly out of date and needs attention however the basic information for gold detecting in Western Australia is listed.
Here are two other sites that I am currently an administrator where you can peruse further information.
West Australian based;
http://s4.zetaboards.com/Gold_Detecting/index/

East Australian based;
http://golddetecting.4umer.net/index.htm

Yes I live Western Australia in the coastal suburb of Waikiki, approximately 45 kilometres south of Perth.
Unfortunately your planned trip to WA in November does not correspond with our detecting season, the temperatures are becoming extreme at this time of the year and we do not venture out to the goldfields from November through until April.
To explain more we live on the coast and need to drive approximately 600 km's to the nearest goldfields and usually 1000k and do not risk a costly trip to find extreme temperatures hinder out metal detecting.
If you do visit West Australia I am prepared to discuss with you any information you may need to put your story together.
For any further information relating to this matter please either reply via email or telephone.

Regards

Peter

Subject: documentary

G'day Nightjar,

My name is Jeroen van Bergeijk. I am a Dutch writer / radio producer based in the Adelaide area, writing both for European and American publications. Currently I am doing research for a series of written stories and an hour long radio documentary on gold prospecting in Australia.

The articles are intended for NRC Handelsblad (www.nrc.nl), a newspaper in the Netherlands, and the American internetpublication BoingBoing ( www.boingboing.net). The radio documentary is intended for a show on Dutch national public radio.

The idea of both the radio documentary and the articles is to chronicle my own efforts to become a (amateur) gold prospector and to sketch the lives of small goldprospectors in Australia.

This is why I am contacting you. I took a good look at your website. Boy, there's heaps of info on there. I am planning a visit to Western Australia this november. That is where you are located. Correct? Anyway, I would love to talk to you for the stuff I am writing/producing. And perhaps I could tag along for a day or so when you are out prospecting. That would be wonderful - and extremely helpful

Okay, I really do hope to hear from you. I enjoyed your website. Great pictures by the way!

Cheers,

Jeroen

Ps. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any additional information about me etc.

Morning members,
The one hour radio documentary was presented several days ago in Holland.
The interview is predominately Dutch however, there are several English interviews with various prospectors including one with myself.
