Hello, i need a new harness and wonder which ones people find the best? The last couple of years ive used an old $10 backpack that was easy to throw on and off with the dome battery in the back as a counter balance for the hip stick and a separate belt on my pants for the pick , it went great. The only prob was it got a bit hot being black and covering your whole back. The original minelab harness i found was slower to get in and out of. Would love to hear from any one using any of the new harneses on the market at the moment or any other ideas on harness - b/pac setups. Thanks MARTY |

Hi Marty, If you don't want to pay an arm & a leg for the top of the range set-up, have a look at my post here: http://s4.zetaboards.com/Gold_Detecting/topic/654477/1/#new What I did was sew a couple of straps to the shoulder harness (one to the left & one to the right), for the hip stick & combined with an army miltary belt which has a couple of pouches attached does the job for me. Mine is the 2 litre hydration pack & there is plenty of room in the Caribee pockets & side pouches for all your detecting needs. No sweating problems on the backpack either. The total investment $85.00 (including belt pouches). Cheers Ted |

hi marty, get a camel-back mate it is worth it, 2 or 3 ks from camp in the goldfields at the moment and its going to get hotter, you need plenty of water, digging a 1meter hole for a nug [or can] takes it out of you..john.. |

Thanks Ted (Topcat) for showing us your setup. This has given the wife confirmation that I was on the right track with my white cotton gloves (well they are a deep shade of beige now actually), a soup ladle, and the 40mm water pipe for the pick. And she said I would never find a use for it when I found a metre over a year ago!! cheers John |

Marty when you are getting set up I recommend you check out what the experts in individual load carrying are using, and by that I mean our military. In particular find out what out infantry soldier are wearing for foot operations. It will comprise of a quality belt with padding and a harness system to share the load between the shoulders and the hips. This type of rig will easily carry all of your prospecting essentials, can readily be adapted to include a hydration system and will support the weight of your detector. |

Marty, Have a look at the "Complete Harness" here www.doubledleather.com I purchased one and I am happy with it because it is beautifully made from all the best canvas and I can now add things onto the belt all the way around ( it is not stitched like the Minelab jobby). Cheers PS You can buy his camel pack which clips onto D clips . Edited by Jigalong, Monday 22-02-2010, 04:26.
