HI EVERYONE, A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL & MAY YOUR DETECTING BE GREAT!! ;) ;)

AMONGST MY XMAS GIFTS I HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN 'AUSSIE SURVIVAL TOOL'...WE SHOULD
ALL CARRY ONE OF THESE VERY SMALL KITS WITH US!! DETECTING OR EVEN BUSH WALKING!!
IT STATES THAT THIS TOOL COULD...'SAVE OUR LIFE'...YES I BELIEVE IT SURE COULD!! AT LEAST
THE ONE TIME I GOT LOST 'BIG TIME' IT WOULD HAVE HELPED ME & THOSE TRYING TO FIND ME!! :'(

click here... http://www.the-firestarter.com.au/ to read about it.

I AM GUESSING MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS KIT FOR SOMETIME SO IT WOULD BE VERY
GOOD TO HEAR WHAT YOU THINK OF IT ?????? HAVE YOU HAD REASON TO USE IT????

CHEERS,

KATH

Hi Kath,
Very handy tool, I picked one up years ago at a caravan/camping show. Have carried it ever since in a little pouch amongst my various "bits'n'pieces," whistle, mirror, snake bandage, fly net.
Have never had to use it to date for signalling, but they do work.
Practiced lighting a fire using dry grass crushed up and also shreaded dunny paper, both produced fire after a couple of scrapes of the tool on the flint.

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels
Peter

To easy Kath.

Try rubbing 2 sticks together like our indigneous brothers do. B) B) B)
If you can do it successfully then you are way ahead when all else fails. :'( :'( :'(
It took me quite awhile to get the hang of it & apart from a couple of cig. lighters & waterproof matches (the easy way)
& a magnifying glass, that I carry in my survival pack, I also have a length of nylon cord to attach to a small bow to
assist in rotating a straight stick to produce friction, hence heat, voila fire.

BTW. Happy New Year to you too.

Cheers

Ted

HI TED,

WELL I DID TRY RUBBING TWO STICKS TOGETHER WHEN I WAS LOST BUT
COULDN'T EVEN MANAGE A TINY SPARK!!! MAYBE IF I HAD SAT TRYING FOR
A LOT LONGER IIT MAY HAVE WORKED, PRACISE,PRACTISE EH???? I HAD
BEEN HOPING, IF I WASN'T FOUND BY DARK, THE FLAMES WOULD KEEP
ANY WILD-LIFE AWAY FROM ME!!!! :'( :'( :'( AS IT WAS, MARC FOUND ME.
THE INTERESTING THING WAS I WAS TOTALLY RELAXED WHILE IN DEEP
TROUBLE BUT LATER, AFTER BEING FOUND & ALMOST AT CAMP MY LEGS
WENT TO JELLY! DELAYED SHOCK! A COUPLE OF WEE DRINKS HELPED ME
TO RELAX AGAIN!!!!! ;) ;) ;)

CHEERS,
KATH

Unfortunately, that would not be a good idea in Victoria as one would be arrested as a fire bug.
Perhaps an EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) might be a better alternative for us.

Robert

PS Kath, I believe it's ARLTUNGA not ARTUNGA :P :P :P

Hi Kath/ members and guests,
If you look in "General Info" near top of the opening page you will find;
Police Survival Aids
There is very important information here for anyone venturing out into our unforgiving country.
Hope this helps if anyone gets into a tight spot....

Cheers

Hi Robert,

Thanks for noting the spelling error.
Was in a bit of a hurry when I put the opening pic on the Forum after the New Year Festivities-now corrected.

BTW If any member has an interesting pic that has merit to be displayed as part of the opening
forum page PM either of the administrators..Kath, Peter(Nightjar) or myself Ted(Topcat) & we will see
if it can be displayed.

Cheers

Ted
