Hi Folks

Just wondering what the distance is from Kalgoorlie to Meekatharra and is it better to stick to the tarmac road that goes through to Mt Magnet from Leinster. Don't want to subject ourselves to more corrugation than necessary :)

We've never been further north than just out of Mt Magnet and any hints would be gratefully received. When is the best time to be there when the weather would not be too warm? I'm afraid I spit the dummy when the temperatures get much over 30 and Chris is no good out there in too much heat.

We were in Wiluna some years back and there was a dirt road through from there but I don't know if that has been tarmac'd either. The truckies then told us not to take that road with our van.

We have permission to detect on one spot out of Meekatharra.

Cheers
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

If you go via Menzies-Sandstone-Mt.Magnet then north to Meekatharra it is 760 km & a good road-Menzies to Mt.Magnet.
If you go via Wiluna to Meeka it is dirt from Wiluna but the road is usually kept in good condition.
I would suggest the Menzies/Sandstone route as there are plenty of detecting spots along the way
if you do a bit of research & see what's available.
Anytime late April should be fine but the way the weather changes over here later then April may be more suitable.
If you make it by the proposed Ora Banda gathering dates in mid April then stopping over there will not be too far out of your way.

Cheers

Ted
