Good morning everyone,

As we are all hopefully soon off detecting I thought I would show how we leave our camp....the fire had to be racked & water bucket removed but almost done.

We come across soooo many camp areas littered with rubbish when all it takes is a strong bag to put the cans, bottles etc in. Check the fire remains are safe.

I am sure most of you do this but we all know plenty who don't! Anyone who camps for whatever reason should take pride in keeping our country clean when
we leave our camp sites. Also let us not forget to fill in our detector holes! ;) Good luck to all for getting some nice nugs this year! :D :D :D

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath

Best advice of all . better than all the advice about finding Gold. I think I am a bit excessive as I dont like even cigerate butts ( I dont take people to our conservation block that smoke as when I look for orchids I would come across their butts.) they just dont go together. another good one is burning plastic. I even had one guy burning plastic on my cooking fire while I was cooking breakfast. Yes you have to wonder.

Good on you Kath for bringing this as a thread

Cheers Johnc

Well spoken Kath

I remember one place where we and another couple wanted to camp - the boys took 2 garbage bags full of rubbish from the area before we could set up our camp.

Just sheer disrespect I reckon.

We are smokers but I always have some of those $2 ash buckets in and around the camp. I too don't like to see butts strewn around campsites. Usually come back to camp with a pocketful of butts too after a day's detecting.

Chris usually sets a separate fire for the burning of rubbish. We burn out any cans and take them into town when we go in for supplies etc. Also any aluminium foil.

Was quite down on a fellow who camped for a couple of days with us. He was a non-smoker so I gave him a box of matches and asked him to please burn the toilet paper. After he left we went to go out our track to go detecting and found all this toilet paper blown everywhere. I can tell you the bloke felt the wrath of an old woman!!!

Better stop moaning.
Cheers

Morning All
Couldn't agree with all your sentiments more. I love the bush and our campsites are always pristine when we leave. I even feel guilty about all the tracks and fireplaces we leave. On fireplaces, my brothers got this thing about building them out of rocks. I hate it and only ever just light straight on the ground with no rock hearth. Been back to places where I'd camped 20-30 years ago and there's no indication I was ever there.

Kath, I've got this thing about looking at photo's on these sites and trying to guess where they're taken. Not prying but was the above one at Noongal? If it's not, don't worry about telling me where, as it's just a thing I like doing.
cheers
Brett

Hello Kath

Totally agree with your sentiments and actions re: camp maintainance. It is distressing to witness burgeoning amounts of filth on roadside stops, let alone in such special wilderness areas.

What type of van is pictured? A full off-roader, or a raised normal van? We are currently looking for a used offroad capable pop-top, (don't want to fork out a few lifetimes worth of nuggets for a new one!)

Hi Kath,

A good topic which does need to be brought to the attention of those who ignore the preservation of the bush.
I normally dig a pit for my camp fire & fill it in when I leave. Helps to prevent bush fires in windy conditions.

Cheers

Great topic to raise Kath,
The majority seem to do the right thing and clean up as they go.
One thing that has been very noticable in our 15 years at Wilson's Patch are the camping spots used every year mostly by different visitors. These camp sites have permanent fire places, fortunately that is all that is left behind.
My theory is the "bush telegraph" passes on safe free camp sites and people passing through not always prospectors stop off for a few days and smell the roses.

Was guilty myself in the early days, whenever I stopped for lunch out came a can of Harvest (Irish Stew, etc etc) when finished the open lid of the can was bent around a small branch in nearby tree. Years later when visiting the same patches the now rusty cans were removed and disposed correctly.

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels

Hi Kath

Yes this is a good topic it may educate a few. Yes the plastic on fire was very interesting as it happened once I obversely spoke my disapproval. But guess what it happened again. some just don't get it and don't want to learn. over 40 years prospecting I feel that the main purpose of lots of our pros associates is finding GOLD, they don't understand, it's the bush and the nature around you, as you get up in the morning listen to the morning chorus and just being away from all the things that make life stressful in normal life. I love being in the bush I go every week to re generate the batteries. If you find gold that's the bonus, but not the main game.

Cheers Johncc ;)
