Hi Members, It is been announced that W.A. has its hottest summer on record. To Quote: "Perth might have missed out on its hottest summer on record, but WA will smash its previous best mark. While the city will come up just short of the 32 degree average daily maximum temperature set in 1977-78, the state's average daily maximum by Sunday is likely to be 29.6 degrees, the Bureau of Meteorology says. That is 0.2 degrees higher than the previous hottest, set in 1997-98, and 1.3 degrees above the summer average of 28.3 degrees. WA has already recorded its third-warmest December and second-hottest January. The Bureau said this month was likely to be the third-warmest February. State records go back to 1950. While Perth will miss out on the heat record, it is likely to be the driest summer the city has experienced since records began, with just 0.2 mm of rain - the minimum recordable amount - falling so far, 0.6mm less than in 1974-75." Unquote. No wonder we had power black-outs today!!!!!! I even had the aircon running near flat out. The beer was cold though!! Cheers Ted |

Hi Ted I'm over this heat Adelaide way also! We've had something like 0.6mls of rain this month and it doesn't look as though we will get any more before the end of February. Some places are having some lovely rain tho'. Can't wait for the weather to cool and Chris to get the van finished and then we will be on the road away from the rat race, burnouts, barking dogs, fighting cats, loud parties and maybe the van windows won't rattle with the music! (The list goes on) Don't ya just love it! Cheers Lyn |

Hi Ted, While there is no denying it has been hot and your details ring true. The main media hype world wide is centred on "Global Warming" impossible to escape this. Within your details below you state; "While the city will come up just short of the 32 degree average daily maximum temperature set in 1977-78" Why hasn't the media gone onto say that 1978 was one of the coldest Winters, on a few days, so much frost you could make snowballs? Years later: Snow in Katanning, 14C max at Black Flag in NOVEMBER 1990. Let's sit back and see how this coming Winter pans out, will it be cold, will it be very wet, will global warming be put on the back burner? Just as long as the grass doesn't grow tall in the goldfields like 94/95 and you battled to get the coil on the ground. Like you Lyn/Chris let's get out of the "Rat Race" and leave all this hype behind.... Let nature take its own course. Cheers Peter |

Hello Ted I foolishly succumbed to detector-withdrawl and took one of my sons into the inland Gascoyne last week, for what was to be a 3 day trip. Somehow we survived the first day, only to find the evening near as hot. We done the campfire and cook-up thing, downed a few ales, listened to CD's, and checked the thermometer - 40 degrees C up to midnight!! We "slept" fretfully, dripping with sweat, swags infested by an insect plague of biblical proportions, until 3 am. The many spiders were probably harmless, but were the last straw. A quick pack-up followed, and into the icy car air-cond for a tactical retreat home. The outside temp never went below 36.5 (at 6am). It may not have been quite hell-on-earth, but you could just about smell the sulphur!! We detected a few likely areas on the way home for bullets etc, half-heartedly, but good practice for better times ahead.. I hope I havn't put my son off detecting for life. All things considered, glad I made the effort, but my advice to others: Wait until April at least! -Mr Walker (Warwick) |
