Hi Folks

Just thought I'd ask a question on the availability of drinking water for when we head Meekatharra way sometime when the weather is a little cooler this year.

Not having been much further than just north of Mt Magnet I wonder if anyone can help with this. Chris is installing to 95 litre tanks on our van which should last us for a couple of weeks out camping. Have always managed with around 140litres for a fortnight but now we have Roxy we have to make allowances for her also.

Many thanks
Lyn

Hi Lyn,

Water is available at The Meekatharra Caravan Park & if you are travelling to Meeka via
Sandstone you can get water there at the caravan park.

Cheers

Lyn/Chris,
If you are entering Leonora from the South, just outside the town is a tourist/caravan information parking bay. Attached to this stop is a tap for visitors to top up their water tanks. You do need your own hose though.
Sure relieves the hassle of trying to top up at the servo's when others are waiting to fuel up.

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels

The caravan park in Meeka will only let you fill up if you stay there, best bet is to head up to the sports oval (Gascoyne Junction road just past the small open cut then on right) once into the show grounds proper you will see a small kids playground over on your left with a tap near the swings, Meeka water is not too bad as far as goldfields water goes.

Hope this helps,

JP

Hi Lyn
I lived in Meeka for 15 years and JP's right, the water's pretty good.
Have a look at:
http://www.meekashire.wa.gov.au
It gives a pretty good idea about the place. You can also get water at the a Water Corporation depot when it's open. It's about 200 metres past the Royal Mail Hotel heading north out of town.
You'll have some fun around there, there are truckloads of alluvial areas.
cheers

Many thanks Lads for the helpful information.

We try and stay out bush for a couple of weeks at a time and I always offer to pay for water but not too keen on paying when it's not real good for drinking.

Sounds good tho'.

Peter - I remember we have filled up at the place just before Leonora now that you mention that. Didn't know whether the facility was still available.

Thanks for the link Brett. I should imagine all those alluvial areas you talk about would be well and truly under lease?
Going to be another big adventure for us.

Cheers
Lyn

Hi Lyn
Yep, most of the ground is pegged and by far the greatest majority is held by one company, Mercator Gold.
There's still miles and miles of ground to prospect and I reckon the only places you would have problems would be if you were on a small prospectors patch, and there aren't too many of them around there now.
If you're interested in any particular area, just drop into the DOI office in Meeka and make enquiries, it's right next door to the cop shop.
cheers
Brett
