Hi Members & visitors,

The Hubby is now being tested for many types of viruses as thankfully he does not have anything life threatening!!!!

One of these tests is for the Ross River Virus, they say results are not always positive if one has had it for a far while.

Looking back Dick mentioned several times abouts aching here & there & being very tired BUT nothing like these past weeks!!!

Anyway just a reminder for us all to take that extra special care, anywhere we are!

Will keep you posted when we get results.

Hmmmm might have to take him for a few ZAPS on an electric fence!!!!! :'( ;) :$ Supposed to kill viruses they say.

Has anyone here had the Ross Rive Virus or any other type of viruse????

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath,
so glad to read that its nothing life threatening for Dick,
i have Ross river virus on top of everything else from the Lupus to fibromyalgia,
i take plaquenel its an anti malarial twice a day plus a host of other medication daily to stop the sweats,
aches, pains, inflamation, brain fog etc etc.
i get zapped by my electric fence at the horses every other day (ouch) but it hasnt seemed to make much differance in the pain.
hope he feels better soon
love to all
Kris

Hi Kath
I know exactly how hubby feels - it's the pits.
My wife and I both contracted the dreaded RRV last year at a camp at Noongal. Apparently the roos are the perfect hosts for the offending mozzies!!
We were in a mess for about three months, taking Voltaren to just get about, but they're no good for you. We both grabbed a mates "over the top" electric fence and that night was the first night in three months that we could actually roll over in bed and stand/walk properly the next day. Haven't looked back since but I wouldn't wish it on anybody, worst thing I've ever had.
Up side is you have lifelong immunity to it once having contracted the virus.
cheers
Brett

Hi Brett,

Thanks for your reply, find that info interesting, what a terrible time for you both!!
I have been concerned for Dick for MONTHS but trully think it reached its peak this
past month....he is a lot better yesterday & today so far!!! Saps the strenght for
sure. Brett did the blood tests confirm it was the RRV??..Dick gets results Tuesday.
Heard it doesn't always show up. Well it looks like he will be giving the fence a try!
Can't see it doing any harm! Dick says we are off bush 7th/8th!!!! Tell him no rush,
but you know what you guys are like!!!!!  :D Anyway I know he will
not take any silly risks.....The family have said they will help with heavy stuff. :D

Cheers,

Kath

HI Kath and Dirs and Mulgadansa

Soory to hear about your afflictions.

Its a great reminder to us to be careful you tend to get a little slack in WA with Mossie protection.

Better pack plenty for Ora Banda if its been raining

Hi Kath and All

My brother also contracted it at the same time and was diagnosed so we didn't bother with the MD, as their position was there is really no treatment.
Anti inflammatories help but don't cure. I did a few detecting trips using Voltaren but the stuff is shocking for your body apparently.
Since the electric fence (which was pretty humourous to watch :D ), I've had an upside in that the slight arthritis I used to have in my hands is a lot less than before.
cheers
Brett

Hi Kath and everybody, regarding the electric fence trick i seem to remember reading or seeing somewhere that multiple bee stings are a remedy as well, not that i would suggest you try it as some people react badly to bee venom(anaphalectic! reaction) requiring urgent medical treatment, possible death!!!. i just thought i would throw that into the ring as well. Bards, how is the grass cover around Kal at the moment,i heard it was pretty heavy recently and a bit hard to get a coil close to the ground.Hope everyone is well soon and we can catch up.
All the best,
Peter

Hi Kath ,
My partner got Ross River Virsus years ago in Brisbane . One morning she got out of bed and fell over , couldn't walk . Blood tests at the time showed nothing . However several months later more blood tests comfirmed it was RRV . Aching wrists and joints for 2 years. Now symptom free .
I have also had encepthaliitis .Yeah also passed by mossies . That was alot worse than RRV . I still go bush but I cover every inch of skin up mornings and evenings . Prevention is better than cure .
As for EST , electric shock therapy , a more pleasant way than grabbing an electric fence , is acupuncture where the practitioner wires up the needles with a small electro current . Plus chinese herbs to bolster the immune system while it struggles with the invader . Hope that helps .
Simon.
Be kind to those on your way up , cos you might meet them again on your way down .

I had Ross River and Bamah Forrest together a couple of years back ... Never wish to experience it again as I was partially crippled for about 3 days .. For some reason if i ever moved a part of my body ... my left knee would be in total agony. My best friend at the time was a Terlin whip antenna for a walking aid. I think it still hits me from time to time now a days. Hope ya-all get well
cheers
