Hi Folks

We arrived in Kalgoorlie yesterday.

150 kms east of the WA border a truckie overtook us and almost took the front of our tojo when he came back in. I said to Chris that he must be tired as he was weaving from the wrong side of the road right over the fog line.
We pulled into a layby about 50kms further on and he was in there. I said to Chris that he must have been having a sleep but then spotted him coming out of the bushes. He started up his truck and was bashing things around underneath the cab chassis that he had on his carrier.
I took Roxy out for her walk and as I was near the back of his truck he reversed towards me then slammed the anchors on. Then drove forward and shouted obsenities at Chris as he drove out of the layby.
We proceeded to the border and his truck was parked in there. We spoke to the lady at the Quarantine check about the incident and she told us to report him to the Eucla police. We decided not to worry about it and headed on to Mundrabilla which is our usual fuel stop (diesel $1.61 p.l).
We were about 20kms east of Mundrabilla when this mongrel came up behind us and then overtook. He cut in sharp again and then drove right off the road into the gravel for about 200 metres and showered us with huge rocks and heaps of poo. Then started mouthing off at us over the two way again. F..ing geriatric C... with your crapped out toyota and f..ing crappy old van etc etc. Went on about us pulling into a truck layby (which it is not illegal to do) while he was trying to sleep! I calmly reminded him that he was coming out of the bushes when we pulled in (way back from his truck). However he just went on and on with the obsenities.
We said that we would be reporting him when we got to the next town. Couldn't get his rego number but managed to see ATP logistics on the side of his vehichle transporter.
I spoke to the Eucla police about the incident and he suggested that instead of us stopping at Cocklebiddy for our next stop that we stop at Madura Pass which we did.
The police officer said that he would be trying to contact the police at Balladonia & Norseman and would also be watching out for him on his way back.
It was pretty scarey and we were on edge all the rest of the way.
We met a storm at Balladonia but not too severe and stopped the night at Norseman. We only had a short 191kms then on Friday to Kalgoorlie. That was not very pleasant either coz we had a side on gale force wind and heavy drizzling rain.
Alls good now tho'. We are safe and sound in Scruff and Pearl's driveway and had a great sleep last night.
Nothing like a bit of TLC to take away all that stress and fatigue.
For the 9 trips we've made to WA and back we have never struck a bad truckie until this time.
We hope to get out and about in a few days and have a swing.
Will be here in Kalgoorlie until early June and then we will head north. Hope we will be seeing some of you soon.
Cheers
Lyn

Hi Lyn/ Chris,
Sorry to hear about your incidents with the truckie, as mentioned they are usually not a problem as a matter of fact they are helpful most times.
Anyway that is behind you now, you can look forward to a bit of R&R in Kal then get out and about and hopefully find yourselves some gold.
Will keep in touch and hopefully catch up somewhere out there somewhere.

Happy hunting

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels

Hi Lynn and Chris where are you going to hang out. Ping me an email if you want to catch up. My bother in law is coming up for a couple of days next week and we are going to do a bit of male bonding in the bush using beer, Stones ( in a bottle) steaks, chops ,minelabs, bang sticks and yabbie nets, so if your all alone in the bush we might call in if your interested.

Thanks folks for all the good words.

We have settled in well here and looking forward to getting out with the detectors. Chris has to fix the plug for our freezer (which travels in the van). He had Anderson plugs for the connection and found that when we got here to Scruff & Pearl's that the thing had melted together!! Must have got water in it when we got rained on. That's no good like that anyway. So we are open to any suggestions that mightm do a better job!

Ted & Peter - we will be catching up with you most likely up north if you are still up that way sometime in June.
Emil - we are staying in Kal at our friend's place until we head north beginning of June but will be doing some day trips just to get the hang of detecting again. Feels like we haven't been out for years. I know you will have a great time with your male bonding thingie. You certainly are good value out there and around the campsite.
Jon - we haven't met Bogene but hope to one day. Sure hope he continues to do well. Maybe we will be able to catch up with you on your next trip or the one after.
Pete - we will all get it right one day hey. Glad you did well on your break. Is that the first trip for 'Tall Pete' to WA?

Thanks also to Silverback who gave us a phone call offering company on his way to Leonora etc. Hope you all do well.

Cheers
Lyn

Morning Chris,
Maybe the contacts on your Anderson Plug weren't a snug fit causing arcing and overheating. These plugs are designed to "hangout" in the weather so it is unlikely water ingress caused your problem.
Anyway no doubt you will sort the problem, hope you didn't lose any food.

Cheers

Thanks Peter

Chris says you've hit the nail on the head. We had the same set up on our old van and nothing went wrong with that in the wet weather and he said that sometimes when he checked this one he didn't get the full reading as should be.

Chris/Lyn,
Further thoughts on your problem.
I have a Anderson plug in the solar panel/ battery circuit and I now recall putting some solder on two of the pins because like you wasn't getting a circuit at all times if I wriggled the plug.

Hi Shooting Star

Not to downplay the seriousness of your encounter with the reckless (and redneck) truckie, but I was reminded of an old classic movie - "Duel."

It was one of Speilbergs' first, and the star, Dennis Weaver, was harassed for days across a desert landscape by a large dark truck, with an unseen driver.

If you get a chance, see it. I reckon an Aussie version re-make, set accross the Nullabor would be great.

I don't suppose you would consider a starring role after your experience! ^o)

Yes Warwick - Chris did see the movie. He spoke of it just the other day and said almost what you did!

I suppose if I don't do any good with the gold this year the movie may be a goer. I would kinda like to reverse the situation for the other mongrel. See how he would feel lol.

Anyway he is definitely not going to spoil our holiday.

A friend took me out yesterday and I managed to get a couple of little nuggies so not going home empty handed. So she's all go from here on in.

Good luck with your prospecting.

Cheers
