Happy to hear you are picking up a few bits Peter,
Have you run into any of the clan up that way? Topcat, Jon, Jackhammer, Lyn & Chris are somewhere out there?

We are getting away just as soon as we can clear up a few things here.

Cheers and looking forward to seeing your pics and posts.

Peter
Good luck & safe travels

Hi Peter,
Even though the rain disrupts prospecting the goldfields sure needs some.
Haven't seen a blade of grass around Leonora for years...

Yes it's good to be able to have a good scrub up and get the dust out of your digs and time to catch up on a bit of maintenance. Too often we tend to be head down and bum up chasing nugs and neglect every day maintenance.

Good luck with the rest of your trip which is how long??

Hi Peter, yes its nice to relax a bit every now and then.your right about the grass, its pretty slim pickings at the moment for the poor wildlife. We have seen camels close to leonora plus dingoes so they are certainly moving around looking for water and feed.Very few roos around compared to previous years. We hope to be out till mid August early Sept but it all depends!
All the best,
Peter

Hi Peter and Peter!!

We arrived home late today after a week away & we were sad to see how badly a lot of the bush is looking, very much in need of a good drink Yalgoo to Mt Magnet areas.
Also the goats are giving the trees a very hard time eating them bare. Huge numbers of goats around those areas now.

Before Cue we saw a dead tabby cat on the road! Then later we saw a large number of crows & spotted a large, ginger cat that the crows were diving at! NEVER seen cats before out bush!

We saw quite a few dead Kangaroos..actually a chap with a female driver stopped opposite us driving along the road, he hopped out & actually ran, grabbed a dead roo right in front of us! Believe they get paid to take the dead animals off the roads but he was flirting with danger & gave us a hellva fright!! There was no way we could have stopped & barely missed hitting him!

Cheers & good luck with the detecting.

Kath

Hi Kath, Peter & members,
Yes the goldfields needs a BIG drink, maybe this summer we will get a rain bearing depression from the tail end of a cyclone dump lots of rain.
As for the wildlife they will eventually be culled to a sustainable population due to the management of the pastoral areas by the Greens who want to return the bush to its natural state. ie: You will have noticed that windmills are shut down in many areas where the pastoral leases are no longer working. The thinking is the native wildlife numbers will return to the level before settlement.
This theory is absolutely hypocritical because the ferals- Camels, goats, foxes, cats & wild dogs etc are moving to the water on working pastoral leases creating even greater problems for those still trying to make a living off the land.
The Wildlife Conservation Group ask travellers to move road kills (when safe to do so) to try and preserve the Wedgetail Eagle population.
They claim a Wedgy can consume about a kilo of meat making it difficult to lift of the ground when a vehicle approaches. The roads are littered with dead birds in the NE Goldfields.

Kath, happy to hear you are home safe once again, looking forward to your pics.

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels

Hi Everyone,

Found that interesting reading Peter about the wedge tailed Eagles. :D

Also with the wingmills being shut down I say it is forcing all animals to wander over the roads
more than ever because they are searching for the water...making it a lot more dangerous for
everyone travelling the roads. Personally I say they should not close down these windmills.

Cheer,

Kath
