Hi All,

Recently I had a (Dr) Frank Horowitz Research Professor UWA School of Earth and Environment and WA Geothermal Centre of Excellence visit Garden Island, and he was interested in any hot springs that I may have come across in my travels in the bush prospecting.

One that sprang to mind was the one adjacent to the Mount Margaret Mission, so I guess there must be more in and around the area we prospect in.

So to all our fellow prospectors if you know of any hot springs that happen to pop out of the ground, it would be appreciated if you could let me know, or you can contact Frank via email at:

frank.horowitz@uwa.edu.au

Thanks,
Trevor.

Hi trevor,

I have just sent an email to frank.

We have only seen one Hot Spring in W.A. & that was/is around Dongara area.We spent time there during 1970's. Now on private land.

So not really bush but may be of interest to him if he does not know about it.

Years ago an army camp was based approx 10/15 klms from the hot spring & they used to march there to bathe so we were told.

I recall the area was beautiful, lush trees surrounding & water hot..you had to go careful in some areas as water was toooo hot!

Would like to hear of other Hot Springs especially if one is allowed to bathe! Sooo relaxing!! ;)

Cheers,
Kath

Hi Kath,

Many thanks for that, I guess we are in a better position than Frank, as all us detectorist, dryblowers or just general prospectors cover an extremely lot of country in our pursuit of our hobby.

I'm sure there must be a few locations out there some where.

Once again thanks for your help.

Cheers,
Trevor.

Hi Trevor,
Kath maybe able to suss out a bit of info considering she lives in Geraldton not far from an old hot spring I recall.
***Thinking, thinking, thinking???***
There is a turn of to the right on the the Geraldton to Northampton road (Gt Northern Hwy). This road may lead you through to Nabawa??? Facts very hazy because I was in my teens when Dad took me along a road to show me hot mud ooozing out of the ground.
Later years I read where this mud began bubbling up in the middle of this road.

Little project for you Kath, while you wait to head out prospecting again. :D

Cheers
Peter

Good luck & safe travels
Peter

Found out a little info from a neighbour this afternoon.

The spring is just off the Nanson Road towards The North Coastal Hwy.

Apparently it is sooo dangerous it has been fully fenced off.

The danger is because 'they' tried to find out how deep the water is but
did not find a bottom'......so i am told. Chap had no idea how warm/hot the water is. :'( :'( :'(

Yes Peter it is strange not being able to contact Frank but I am going to try again. ;)

Cheers,

Kath

Hi Kath and Peter,

Thanks for assisting Frank, I don't know why you may have had trouble with his UWA email address but I shall place both email addresses on here again, and they are:

fghorow@gmail.com

frank.horowitz@uwa.edu.au

Many thanks for your input.

Cheers,
Trevor.
