Hi to all in this forum, Great to find a forum that understands WA terrain. My name is Suzanne and I'm fairly new to detecting, have only found 4 little bits so far after being out swinging my detector around Kalgoorlie/Coolgardie area for the last two weeks. I really loved it, but I love being in the bush anyway. Have had an interest in fossicking for rocks down river beds etc. since for ever, but never been attracted to finding gold till my friends in the Pilbara took me out with them a couple of months ago. More rock collecting, photography and a good yarn around the campfire, and being surrounded by red dirt and the bush for me. I can't do city life much at all, just not me. When I came back down from the Pilbara was thinkin' of ways to get out of the city again, so decided I'd like to go detecting after seeing a bit how it all worked. Met up with a person who I thought was a 'friend' and was into some prospecting so I bit the bullet, bought a second-hand 4500 and rest of the 'tools of trade ' (pick, scoop, two way etc etc) and took him up on the invite to come out to Kal for a couple of months as a 'travel companion'. Had a great time for the few days I went out detecting, that first piece of gold I'll never forget! even though it was only little. Things went a bit pear-shaped with my 'friend' so have very reluctantly had to return to perth. Tried really hard to find some contacts in Kal. but the APLA office had a padlock on the gate and the number I was given was answered by a very rude lady who said she couldn't help. Tried all the usual places, but just turned up a lot of dead ends for me. I think it's a little out of the ordinary that a woman wants to be going out looking for gold, unless she's with a partner. Met a great local guy there - thanx Charlie for all your help and knowledge and taking me out for a few days to find some gold. You were the highlight of my time there. So at the risk of writing a novel here, I'm looking for a detecting buddy or buddies (onus on the word 'buddy' as distinct from the word 'relationship' or 'quick bit of fun!) Just want to be out bush, having a bit of a swing, sitting round a campfire sharing a yarn and a laugh, enjoying the sunset or sounds of the bush. I have a 4WD and am pretty self-sufficient re camping gear. Is there anyone out there who has a few nuggets under their belt and needs a detecting buddy with no price tags or innuendos attached? Would love to hear from a group, couple, another woman, or a down to earth, honest bloke who just wants to go out and find some gold and enjoy the bush? Can do some short trips from Perth up till December, then after February next year. |

Hi Suzanne, Welcome to the forum. There are a few gals on this forum & I'm sure you will find a detecting partner. It is the end of the swinging season for a lot of us here as the temps start to rise & things begin to be uncomfortable. Good to see you are finding some gold to keep the urge going. Feel free to ask questions & relate your experiences. Cheers Ted |

Thanx for the welcome Ted, hope I'm asking for a detecting buddy in the right spot. I agree, not a good time of the year to be doing this, but thought I'd put it out there anyway and see what turns up. Maybe can tee up something for next year or just chat to some like-minded people. Cheers.... |

Hi there Kris, Bugger! was just in Coolgardie on the weekend so could have called in. We did a bit of swinging around an area near there, on the dirt track to Ora Banda, and camped there for a few days. found my first little bits of gold there, so it will stay in my memory as a pretty special area. Hope you keep in touch anyway, seems like everyone hibernates over the summer months in this game (smart move!) so probably won't get out till it cools down again. Thanx for the offer and just may turn up one day! |
