Freshwater (my partner in crime) sent me the link to here and suggested I join as we are planning our trip over your neck of the woods as we speak. Great looking ground you blokes have there! My rellos were all gold miners, some were the first settlers in the NSW gold feilds back in the 1850's so I suppose it was in my genes to take up the hobby. I've been detecting and panning for a bunch of years, starting out with an old Garrett given to me by my legend/hero late uncle as a young fellow, sometimes I think he gave it to me as punishment. I never found a thing with it but I remember it cost a fortune in batteries. My first nugget find (with a detector) was a 2 1/2 oz beauty on the first day of owning a shiney new XT17000 when they first came out. Didn't find another for probably two years! I made a stupid deal with myself I'd only upgrade with the proceeds of what my detector found so missed the SD series and went to the Extreme. From the Extreme to the 4500 and now to the 5000 which I am learning to love! As I work for myself I've cut my normal job back to 4 days a week and detect the other three and take a week or two off every 6 weeks or so. I wouldn't say gold fever...maybe a sniffle or slight cold, I just love being out there dreaming and walking the same ground my ancestors trod. Cheers, Steve |

Hi Steve, I gave you a welcome on Freshwater's intro but I'll do the same here. It sounds as though you two have been into the prospecting game for awhile and enjoying it. Looking forward to hear of your experiences. Cheers Ted |
