Would members like to see a sub forum,
containing all old articles like this one above?
from the late 1800's onwards.
i find it facinating and very good for research reading old articles like this!
;)

Interesting reading Kris

The one somewhere around Burra is aprrox 3hrs drive from us.

All on private property now and not many folks allow people on to detect. Usual story - the few that spoil things for other folks.

Chris and I have usually managed to obtain permission without any bother. I drafted up a little public liability waiver (although it is not really legal in a court of law it shows your good intentions) and even some pastoralists have asked if they can use that for other people who want to go on their property.

The pastoral laws here in SA are quite different to those in WA wherein over here it is like the farmers own the land.

I tried some years back to open up old gold areas for folks trying to find a piece of gold but never had much success. Made a lot of phone calls and kept getting told to "ring so and so" etc.

A lot of the small towns out and about would benefit from more money the prospectors would spend.

However it is much easier now for Chris and I to make the annual trek to WA. The amount of new friends we have made has enriched our lives to something we would never have dreamed about.

Too good

We are all so lucky and we will keep on doing this as long as our bodies will allow us to.

Cheers
Lyn

Hi Lyn

Interest that you should mention that about the finds at Burra as my brother happens to work for the company the owns the land that the above is mentioned & he informed me that permission will not be granted to prospect or detect for enviromental reasons.
Also the same is for all the old copper workings in the Burra District that have been fenced off for the same reason.

Cheers
