Hello folks, I hope all is well.
Seeing as im reading everyone knowledge and such, I should introduce myself a small bit:
Im a Canadian University student living in eastern Canada. Im hearing about how hot your summers are and I laugh because im used to telling people about how cold our winters are (Can be colder than -50C in some places ive lived). Im putting together the plans to make a trip to Australia in about a year (After I graduate) and so I am reading everything I can.
Ive read the saying "When it doubt, Dig it out" a few times and I love how it applies to getting ready for the trip as well... Whenever I wonder if I have a stupid question, I ask it anyway to get the answer... and every once in a while, I get a large nugget of an answer that really helps.

I have no equipment, no vehicle, no dates, no places, and no detecting experience, but I do have experience being in the Canadian outdoors.
If any of you think to yourself "I wonder if the newbie Canadian guy knows about this" PLEASE send me a message haha... because I would rather have a hundred messages about the same thing over having no messages at all.

But now that I wasted half your day with all that long winded jabber, I just wanna say Thanks for providing this site. It is definitely a help.

Thanks,
Rob

Welcome Rob,

We could do with some of that hot summer now. About a quarter of our counrty is flood affected
with billions of dollars worth of damage.

I'm sure we'll have it looking good for you when you get here.

Good morning and welcome Rob,
As Robert has mentioned the East coast of Australia is under water after years of drought but here in the mid and lower West where I live we are now experiencing the drought with our grain crops down by a half in 2010.
In Northern West Australia we are experiencing flooding, it's a crazy mixed up part of the world at this point in time.
The "Climate Change" gurus must be running around redfaced and sharpening their pencils to try and write an explanation to squirm out of this one.
Back to what our forum is mainly about, gold prospecting.
Anyone like yourself starting out in this exciting hobby obviously has a lot of questions and this is the place to be if you want answers.
Take your time and put together a series of questions if the answers are not already here amongst all the posts.
Paramount to anyone venturing into our outback gold country is safety that maybe a good starting point for your future visit.
Good luck and hope you thaw out soon.

Cheers from all here at "Gold_Detecting in WA"

Peter
Good luck & safe travels
Peter

geez sorry to hear about all the crazy destruction going on there. But hey, lets look on the bright side... maybe it will wash some top soil off just enough for the detectors to pick up some nice nuggets.

Nightjar, thanks for the words of warning and welcome. The forums here have been very helpful and somewhat entertaining lol. You guys (and girls) seem to enjoy what you are doing and seem good at it as well.

Im finishing up a university degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing. Im thinking after graduation ill take a trip to the WA and spend 3-4 weeks testing my luck. If all works well, im looking for a change of scenery and might consider looking for a career there. Ive always been a treasure hunter at heart, it would be nice to let it out haha.

I am in conversations with some suppliers to try and get a sweet deal on a bulk order of GPX5000. Hopefully for under $2000 each (US dollars). If I can work something out, ill post on the forums here and see if anyone wants in. Does that sound like a good idea? Would most likely be an order of 10 units.

Hi Rob,

Good to see that you have introduced yourself on the forum after your PM to me.
Now that you have broken the ice so they say, ask away as there is a wealth of knowledge here
that will steer you in the right direction.
Post your queries in the relevant forum topic sections.
All the best for the future.
Cheers,

Ted

Hi Rob,

The guys that built this place a little over a hundred years ago came with no vehicle, what ever equipment they could carry on their back,
one place in mind and the freedom of calling no man master in their quest for the yellow metal.

A lot went on to Alaska and left their mark on Chilcoot Pass.

Still a bit of gold left here mate . Might even be a piece with your name on it.

Cheers,

Driller.
