I just received an e-mail about this site and decided to pop over. As stated in the title, I'm from Gold Beach, Oregon USA. It is a small town of just over 1600 people in the winter. When the chinook salmon start running up the Rogue River the population jumps to around 5000. The town was originally named Ellensburg but in 1954 a very strong storm stirred up the ocean and threw a lot of gold up on the beach. People were using horses and draglines to scrape the top 3" of sand off the beach and pan it out for the gold. It is microscopic in size and very hard to retain when panning. My favorite spot is 35 miles up the Rogue River at Foster Bar(not Foster Beer) where I've recovered some large flakes and small picker nuggets. I'm almost 60 years old and have all the basic gold recovery equipment including sluices, blue bowls, panning tubs and I have 2 white's metal detectors and a 4" Keene Dredge. In order to keep all my bookmarks, I greated a "Links" page several years ago and add links to metal detecting and prospecting pages when I find them. It's located at: http://www.cowboy444.com/Forums I hope you'll check it out and tell your friends about it. cowboy444 |
