Hello All,
What a friendly board!!! ...Makes a nice change. Anyhow, names Tony I'm a retired Electronics/Communications Technician, worked for a Major Metropolitan Daily newspaper for 30 odd years in Melb., Been prospecting since before I can remember :-)

Built many contraptions for finding gold over the years, cradles, puddler's, dry-blower's my first detector was a home made I.B. Machine in the Late 70's good on the beach found an old 1850 1/2d with it in an old miners hut in Tarnagulla Vic. And that got me hooked on detecting.
Then purchase a White' 6DB And over the next few years found about 20 odd ounces in The Victorian Goldfields with the Whites.

When I retired in 1997 Bought the latest Minelab Machine which was a SD2100 & WOW What had I been missing...

Went to the Beutifull West in '97 on a guided tour with ....The Prospectors Friend :-) For a couple of weeks with a mate and came home with about 2&1/2 Ounces...
Been back every year since, but now run a 4500 & 18" C/T Mono.

Biggest bit so far, Bang on 8.0 Ounces found 12" Deep On my 57th Birthday with the 2100 & 14" DD Sounded like a coke can.

Best tip I can give any Newby; ..Wear steel capped saftey boots when detecting for a while, It makes you stick that coil right out in Front and SLOWS you down so much you'll hear everything....

Hope to see you out there sometime & Good Luck!!

Tony
