been a busy first two months, detecting coin shooting relic hunting virtually everyday. so far oldest find was a 1882 half penny at old doodlakine town reserve. found a 1888 pocket watch in the paddock that if you know how to read a text book and id a photo in a book to real life surrounds. took some doing but finally found the paddock that had the ruins of yarragin inn from 1880s. also found a military button from a ww2 hospital site and found 50 calibre bullets where their weapons range was as well

Hi Jack,

Just been viewing your vidios, enjoyed them..a shame about the wind though as cannot often hear your speaking!

Baandee Island vidio....That appears to have been Kay's Farm, they were one of the wealthist farmers around 1920-1940.
That building you went down to would have been one of their sheds. They also had a beautiful home which even had
electricity!! Rare for outback in those times. The Kay family even had their own tennis court. They ran a large amount
of cattle on the property. ;)

I have a good collection of coins, toys etc etc mainly from old parks...I started off with also a Dick Smith detector a son gave me!
I was amused one day digging 7 small dinkie toys in one area..bet Mum/Dad wondered where those toys had got to!!.. Very
encrusted so been there years.

Cheers,

Kath

Hi Bear,

What a great token you found! I am hanging out to find something that old!! :D :D :D
Such good condition also. How do you clean your coins etc?
We would enjoy seeing more of your collection!!!...hint!! :$
What detector do you use?

Jack has a great collection of goodies & guessing he will have more pics when he gets time. ;)

Bit overcast here but I HOPE to go try for some goodies along another beach today!!! I am not
doing much good very close to water..not going in as don't have long scoop....but do much better
in soft sand areas & near the banks.

Cheers,

Kath

Morning Kath,
After reading your post it came to me to ask;
Have you ever been out to Devlin's Pool?
This used to be a frequent weekend get-away with many all night parties, no doubt items would have been lost over time?

Cheers
Peter
Good luck & safe travels

Thanks Peter, you had mentioned that a long time ago & I did go there but most of the bank
is now in deep water, barely room to stand. Bet many interesting gatherings were held there
& those tresures in deep mud now. I did get half pennies on the other side where huts used to be
but went there a few weeks ago & that has been cleared & also tide tooo high at river.

Checked out where caravan park was also...did okay there but cleared areas now or old concrete left! :'(

Most beach areas here have had a grader go over them many times...the front beach used
to be good, also Pages etc but with all these wonderful changes to the town a lot of treasures
have been lost.......I still keep trying though!!!!....Tried at St. Georges Beach yesterday & also a
sand-pit but only managed in coins $1.05

Cheers,

Kath

Hi Kath,
When we were frequenting Devlin's Pool there was nothing there other than a track leading into the swimming hole opposite the high cliff face. We used to dive off the cliff face and it was quite eerie because the water was very deep, fresh and black dark which made it difficult to know which way was up. :'( :'(
The stupidity of youth when you feel bullet proof.
Sounds like all the likely spots are now covered over or graded away.

Cheers

Hi Per,

From what you have just said it sounds like I have not been to the correct place!!!!
I will have to check out my directions!!

Yes we have no fear when young.....always feel uncomfortable about the depth
at Ellendale pool...come to think of it, that place FITS your description!!!!????? :$

Head out past Walkaway ??
About 15 klm from Walkaway...hey bet that is where you mean??????? ;) A long time
since you lived here. ;)

Cheers,

Kath

:$ :$ :$ Kath, Yes it is Ellendale Pool I was referring too, east of Walkaway, used to be a rope in a tree to launch into the pool.
40+ years have flown and the memories have obviously diminished. :D
Devlins Pool (No cliffs there) is just south, just past the "S" bend, after the turn off into the mouth of the Greenough River? Am I right?
So have you had a coin/ trinket search at Ellendale?

Would you be allowed to search around the historic buildings at the Greenough township?
Can recall returning home by bus from Perth and it used to stop just north of the township and the bus driver used to hand a paper to a dog for its owners. This was a daily event, you could delve the Geraldton Guardian newspaper archives and find the write up about it?
On the trip to Pt Gregory, when we dropped in and met you, hubby, Marc & Susan in 2009/2010???, I pointed out to Carol the crumbling remains of the old home the people used to live in.
So much history on the Geenough Flats, very fertile land and one of the first major farming areas outside the Swan River Settlement (1829) to be settled.

Happy coin hunting
Peter

Cheers

Good luck & safe travels

Good morning Peter,

You are doing well! :D

You are partly correct about Devlins pool, the turnoff & sign is
pretty close to Cape Burney/Greenough River turn off....
S bend is a fw klms heading towards Dongara....Caravan Park is there.
When you said cliff jumping I knew something was wrong. ;)

No I have not detected at Ellendale..YET!!!! Keeping very close to home at this time.
Can you recall loosing anything at Ellendale?????

I had asked for permission to detect a couple of old buildings but told no as
private property & owners not keen. Maybe changed hands? Yes lots of interesting
places even Moonyooka??? & Walkaway etc etc but like I say close to home until
things sorted out & we can go detecting bush!!! HOPE!!!!

Cheers,

Kath
