G'day Matt.welcome to our forum.Usually about now most of us are winding down from prospecting as it starts to get too hot in the bush to really enjoy it.Also the flies start getting too friendly as well.Sneak a quick trip in if you can but get to be a full bottle on the rules and regs before you go.I dont know how much you know of prospecting over here but you gotta know where you are in relation to other peoples leases and where you are allowed to go.The mines dept has all the info you need and learn to operate tenegraph as well which is the mines dept website telling you all the various leases about.Enough preaching now or Kiss will think im taking over his job. Enjoy yourself and what you dont know ,somebody on here will, you only have to ask.

Thanks for the welcome i feel a long post coming up, as you probably know mostly coin and artifacts are found in the Uk. Had to give up most of my collection when i moved over here but kept some of the nicer coins id found with me. Im interested in geology as well so reckon im pretty well set-up for life in the bush . (Yes got my miners right 2 days after landing still working out Tengraph though???) Managed to dig up an Iron age Hoard in 2004 which contained silver ingots and some gold and silver coins from about 50bc which was fun(Gold stater in photo) Anyway in the UK i used a mid range Fisher and i brought over a cheap Tesoro which is good with mineralisation not sure how it works with the ironstone yet though. I still reckon you really need to be in the right place to start with i quote "he jumped from his camel, crushed his heels into a pile of nuggets gathered £750,000 of gold in two hours, carried it a hundred miles to coolgardie with the camels running an even 16 mph, shouted 4,000 dollars-worth of champagne, and triumphantly wheeled the gold in a barrow from his hotel to the bank. A strong man,a strong barrow, his 6 tons of gold equalled the recorded yield of the entire colony for 1894" And he did'nt have a detector . Anyway hope to make some good friends here thanks. Welcome Matt, Took the liberty to fix up your link for the coin hoard. Must give one hell of a buzz to dig up treasure like this. When you dig your first gold nugget feel sure this will also be a day of great excitement, the down side is you will also be overcome by a terminal illness, GOLD FEVER. I see you are obviously reading stories from days gone when nuggets were literally laying on the ground, unfortunately those days have gone. There is still gold to be found with determination, hard work, research, metal detector, reliable vehicle, camping equipment and some luck thrown in. There is enough info here on the forum to get you on the right track, what is missing don't hesitate to ask. Good luck and keep us posted as you move forward. |

G'day Matt and welcome. You couldn't have picked a better bunch to be mingled with! Congratulations on all your wonderful finds - and I know you will be well on your way to your first kilo of gold before too much longer! Just to have the good fortune of being out there is the most fabulous thing - enjoy it while you can and hope you get that extra bonus of some lovely nuggies! Cheers Lyn |
