Killing means never having to say you're sorry...

The main thing is that players in the DC are going to be divided into three categories. First, are the General Players. General Players are tactical players, they just play their characters but are not limited to just one side of a conflict. General or Tactical Players are allowed to create multiple players for each side of a conflict provided that they are not the same role. General/Tactical Players are not allowed to used NPC characters, they cannot issue orders to other players or in anyway take on any command or role greater than what their character's current role is. Second are the Operational Players. They are responsible for commanding and controlling NPC and Player characters and forces. Operational Players play as Generals. They are charged with issuing orders to others and controlling the general flow of battle. A player cannot be an Operational role in more than one faction at a time. Third are the Strategic Players. They have the responsibility of Faction Leadership. They are to lay out objectives, issue orders, and to decide the overall direction of the story. Because of their role, they may not enter combat with their characters. GC uses the same free-form system that any other RPG site out there uses. You post, your opponent posts, each player calls their own damage until finally one or the other is rendered completely crippled and incapable of further action. The only other outcomes are retreat or mission objectives being cleared before either player is incapacitated. Unlike other Role Plays, on GC, players of all roles are assigned to various fronts on specified ships in order to encourage a sense of community and comradery. This is the reason for the three types of players. Strategic Players create the scenario, Operational Players plan out the execution of set scenario, and General/Tactical Players guide themselves through that scenario to victory or defeat. Each front is treated as a self contained story within the plot. Battles in GC are decided by the Advantage System. Basically NPC forces WILL ALWAYS be present with the player forces. However, their presence only contributes to a limited set of advantages your faction has in any given battle or scenario. IN such battles, Player actions from General/Tactical to Operational Players will then modify such advantages based upon the end results of player battles. When a battle or scenario is resolved, it will be done so by adding the accumulative advantages of all sides in any battle or scenario. Which ever side has the most advantages, wins the battle or scenario. Actual battles in GC consist of three parts. Each part is represented by different parts of the field of battle, with the battles proceeding in phases through each part. First is the Battlefront. In the Battlefront, all forces of all sides engage in battle. Subsequently, the Flank is also fought by the ever present NPC forces. Now, depending on the result of the Battlefront and the Flack battles, whichever side wins both the Battlefront and the Flank wins advantages for each of the battles won. Both sides will then have the option of deploying reinforcements that they may have for a counter attack from the rear. Whichever side has the most advantages after the end of the Counter Attack phase wins the battle. At this point, the battle is won and both sides move onto the next battle or scenario. |
