I'm a little shocked...

While I feel that the 12-year-old was put in charge, I think 12 is perhaps a bit too young to be babysitting. ESPECIALLY when it comes to caring for multiple children. I feel that this is more of negligence on the parents' part, rather than the kid's.

I think it's both. The parents shouldn't have had a 12-year-old babysitting, and the boy should have been paying better attention.

This story makes me sad. The parents shouldn't have left him alone with several children, very few 12 year olds are ready for that sort of responsibility. I started baby-sitting around that age, I know I was baby sitting by 13, can't remember if I was at 12 or not.

At the same time... chances are this wasn't the first time he was babysitting and therefore should've been keeping a better watch. Charging him with negligent homicide for what was most likely a horrible accident seems a bit much. The kid is already going to live with the regret for the rest of his life.

Sad.
