 Stop the E-PARASITE Act.

This Bill would allow essentially allow A Great Firewall of America and would be a shameful desecration of free speech and any sort of reasonable copyright law. The new Law would allow copyright holders to force websites which have any copyrighted material to be blocked by ISP companies around the country, without requiring that the websites be given time to take the offending material down. It would also put pressure on ISP companies to monitor their users like never before, a gross invasion of privacy. This bill is a direct assault on a free internet and a shameful attempt by copyright lobbyists to destroy net neutrality. Essentially it's a censorship law that would end the internet as we know it in America.
here is a link to a c/net story about it : http://news.cnet.com/8301-31921_3-20126165-281/copyright-bill-revives-internet-death-penalty/

here is a link to pass on to your friends and family. please register and sign the petition, though I don't know how much it will help....

Fortunately, not even 10% of bills end up as laws, and even if it did, I see this being quickly shot down in the Supreme Court.

It almost reminds me of Bill S.978 in a way!

I wouldn't worry too much; I can't see this coming in anytime soon. It's already been threatened and subsequently thrown out across Europe. People never want to get involved mixing law and the internet (well, other than Lars Ulrich). Even the proposed .xxx domain name for porn sites was thrown out last year, even though that was win/win for everyone ^o)

yeah i know the odds of this happening are low, but i never heard anything about it before today. i wanted to at least bring to people's attention. it would probably get thrown out for being unconstitutional, and then they would change the wording and try again next year....it is an endless cycle when money and politics mix....
I just looked at Bill S.978, and yeah it is probably just a reworded version of that bill.

I lol'd at the Lars Ulrich joke, especially because I torrented Metallica's music :P I try to support the artist as much as possible, but it's nearly impossible to find their old stuff in stores anymore...

Amazon, man, Amazon! There's only ever been one album I've not been able to find on Amazon and that was a pretty obscure self-released album that didn't even have a barcode on it.

But good on you for still buying music. Not enough people do.

 I didn't even think of using Amazon! And iTunes can go to hell...

I know a lot of people where all of their music has been torrented. I'm almost tempted to sic the copyright office on them :P
