Kind of splitting from the Halloween topic, given the variety of users on the forum it would be interesting to see what cars and bikes people have had. This is my first car: Rover Metro 1.1S (1.1L engine producing around 60bhp): ![]() Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI GLX Mk 1 (stretched Golf Mk IV underneath with a 1.9 turbodiesel engine producing 90bhp): ![]() Seat Toledo 1.9 TDI Sport 150 Mk II (stretched Golf Mk IV underneath with a 1.9 turbodiesel engine producing 150bhp): ![]() And my current car, a Skoda Octavia VRS Estate TDI VRS (Golf Mk V underneath with a 2.0 turbodiesel engine producing 170bhp): ![]() On the bike front, a Honda CBR-125R (125cc engine producing 14.6bhp): ![]() My current bike, a Suzuki SV650S (650cc v-twin engine producing 72.5bhp): ![]() And finally, my main choice of transport - a Trek Soho Deluxe with a carbon fibre belt (no chain), front brake disc, rear rollerbrake, integrated eight speed gear hub with Alfine eight speed shifter and carbon fork: ![]() Fuel efficiency is superb but bhp isn't so hot particularly when it comes to hills I do worry I'll regret my choice of cars in years to come as I've never had a 'silly' car and my workmates rib me for having a diesel estate before I'm 30 but common sense seems to win out. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's cars/bikes. John Edited by JohnMcL7, Nov 7 2011, 02:07 AM.

I currently drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer. 5 speed manual transmission, 2.4 L I4 engine (but decent acceleration for only being 4-cylinder), and I get around 30 miles per gallon.![]() Mine's black though, so it's awesome It's a great first car and it was given to me by a family friend, so I'm pretty lucky in that all I had to pay was the price of new oil and new spark plugs!I don't own a bike though (well, besides my bicycle obviously), and my mom would kill me if I got one. They look insanely fun though! Edited by crazybydefault, Nov 7 2011, 03:46 AM.

Due to a wonderful combination of a) cars being fucking expensive and b) my wife & I being pretty poor, our history with cars is not the greatest. For many years we had a 1995 Ford Fiesta. It looked a little like this, only red and with the proper number of doors: ![]() For the last few months of its life, it had no heating whatsoever (which was fun when it was around -18 degrees every day) and the engine cut out if you were under 20mph and you weren't accelerating. Which meant that every time it happened (and because of things like traffic, lights, roundabouts etc, it happened a lot), we lost the radio, headlights, and the power steering and ABS. It was fun. As of January this year we now have a 2007 Ford Fiesta, which looks a little like this but in red: ![]() It is well good. So it struggles a little with acceleration uphill, but who cares. It's cheap to run, it's reliable, it's comfortable, it has a surprisingly good sound system, and it has those cool Ford heated windscreens so when it gets frosty (like this morning), they can be cleared with the simple press of a button. No more de-icer! Woo!

My first car was a Vauxhall Nova, which broke on my 18th birthday. Then I had a Metro too! A great little runner. Fuel gauge didn't work though... When that broke I got a Hyundai Pony, which despite the name was a great car. (Oooo that's a big picture...sorry. I removed it, can't find a smaller one that looks anything like what I had.) Then I moved out of my parent's and couldn't afford my own car. I drove my mum's for a while, till I crashed it into a 4x4 (oops!), and then I was on my girlfriend-at-the-time's insurance for a couple of years. She had a Fiat Punto called Gilbert (why do women name their cars...?) I've not driven for a few years now, other than a van once to help someone move. I miss driving Mind you, I get about just fine on my lovely little bicycle (which I can't find a pic of), in fact for most short journeys, eg into town, it's actually quicker than driving... I haven't had many cars, since I was able to keep all of them in great running condition and felt there was no need in trading them at them time. - 1987 Nissan Maxima - 1992 Plymouth Acclaim - 2000 Ford F150 Harley Davidson Edition - 2002 Ford F150 Harley Davidson Edition (traded 2000 for it = bad move) - 2006 Hyundai Sonata I have pictures of the last two vehicles, but I can't post them until I get off from work. Right now, I'm working on getting my next vehicle, which I plan on purchasing hopefully around the 2nd-quarter of 2013. It will be a luxury SUV of some sort... more likely a Lincoln Navigator, since I get discounts off of Ford products. I've never been a bike person, especially since I've lost too many family and friends to horrible accidents. |

How much is your insurance? ![]() I usually bike everywhere. However, it drops to single-digit (Fahrenheit) temperatures during the winter here, and people live all over the place (occasionally 20+ miles away) so I have to drive to get somewhere. Not to mention that I enjoy driving

I love cars! My first was a maroon 1995 Honda Accord given to me by my parents. That got totaled by a "friend". My current car is a silver 1997 Audi A4. ![]() I used to own a 2008 Specialized Allez 24, but I had myself an accident. Stupid old lady hit my while she was talking a left and totaled my bike (and injured me). I'm currently building a fixed gear from an old Nishiki frame.

Faulty fuel gages seem to be a Metro thing as I remember my Dad running out of fuel in the middle of nowhere in a relief Metro he had which he didn't realise wasn't showing the fuel properly and Michael Macintyre was joking about his Metro with a faulty fuel gauge which meant he had to use the odometer to work out when to fill up then the odometer broke... I agree with you about push bikes as I try not to use my car for any short trips (not good for the car as it's turbocharged and has a DPF) now which is particularly handy going into town as there's no thinking about traffic or routes to take, just head straight in. It's not so great at the moment though as it's getting very chilly here so I'll be off out tomorrow to get some cold weather cycling gear as I'm determined to keep using the bike particularly as the bike is meant to be very low maintenance.
This is unfortunately part of biking and one of the reasons I haven't touched the SV in a while, I felt I was getting too confident of the bike and wasn't scared of it any more which I was concerned wouldn't end well. I crashed the 125 when I became too confident on it and was throwing it round the corners and came round a corner to find a spread of gravel across the road which I couldn't do anything about, the bike immediately fell over and we parted ways punting me skidding down the road. Of course I was wearing a proper jacket and trousers with protective impact points and armour so I walked away it without even a bruise (just a friction burn) despite going down at over 40mph. After that I was so much more careful knowing what it felt like to lose a wheel but in time that gradually passed. The performance and feel of a bike is just amazing, for the cost to insure and run a small car you get something that can outpace many supercars up to about 100mph and the screaming howl from the v-twin engine as it screamed past 13,000 revs then a quick flick into the next gear was hard to resist. But then there's the corners which are so tricky on a bike, you have to get your speed and lean right before the corner because you can't adjust it during a corner and if you don't get it right you're coming off. With a car you can throw it into a corner and benefit from the grip of four large tyres combined with advanced traction systems and if you haven't got it quite right you can correct it plus if you really get it wrong you're protected by impact zones and airbags. My one and only car is my 2009 Chevy Aveo. It's super cute, a manual, and an obnoxious teal color. It fills me with happiness every time I see it. If I knew how to post pictures here, I totally would so you guys could experience the joy my car brings.
