Yes Scrufflepops. Despite not being a football fan most of the time, I do watch the major tournaments. All two of them... What to say about tonight's game? Well, the French tried a few of their standard dirty tricks, as they do, but I think they had the edge and it was fortunate England didn't concede another in the second half. Saying that, England's performance was far better than expected (though that's not really hard), they just need to learn how to not get frustrated around the 75 minute mark. If they had done that, the French defence could quite easily have been decimated, just like all French defences of any kind have been throughout the entire history of everything. (Do we have any French people on here? I don't think we do, but if we do, I don't mean any offence by the repeated insults )

I am exactly the same! YOU FUCKING COPYCAT!! ![]() I thought we did alright, actually. Maybe it's just because my expectations were SO low after our performance over the last 8 years, or because of good ol' Roy being our new manager, but I thought we did pretty respectably. Still too much passing back to the defence but we'll get there. Next game is Friday night, and the viewing party/commiseration is at my house this time. Eep. |

We established, quite some time ago now, that it is you who consistently and unashamedly copies me. Of course, I don't blame you, I mean why wouldn't you? Yeah, I think there's hope, or more hope than there was before the match. Seems like a decent enough side, just has to hold it together for the full 90. Roll on Friday, where I'll probably be watching it on my own cos not many of my mates care for football (any football), and those that do aren't local. I'll have booze though, so I'll pretend other people are there.

Jesus. It's games like that that make me glad I'm only a football fan every 2 years. Great game and all, but my heart was pounding the whole time, and the opening 15 minutes of the second half were so immensely depressing. Our defence just disappeared! But huzzah for the second and third goals - blimey. I do wish the commentators would cheer up a bit though; I don't know what it is but whenever there's an England game on, everything is shit and is always going to be shit. Cheer up, guys! |

Yeah I know what you mean. I was in a little pub and the tv wasn't up loud (there were two other tvs, but those rooms were full) so we couldn't hear much, but I distinctly recall when Sweden went 2-1 up the commentators didn't say "Sweden have taken the lead", they said "England have lost the lead". Wankers. But yeah, great game. |

Slippery driving? Like, driving on ice or something?

Well, because there is no ice during summer, there is track made out of tin plate with water on it. And that stuff really is like ice. Edited by porottaja, Jun 19 2012, 06:56 PM.

it would be really helpful if they did teach that here; you have to learn the hard way - on the real stuff in a not-so-controlled environment!! |

I took a class, bit I absolutely agree that it should be mandatory, at least in areas prone to icing. The first time I experienced hydroplaning behind the wheel, I nearly needed a new pair of pants! |

Or you just don't learn it. Most towns down here just close down for a few days if we have an ice storm or snow. |

I did a couple of lessons on ice.. but only because it was icy at the time. It's not a compulsory part of learning to drive, and it probably should be given that every time some ice hits the whole country grinds to a halt. Braythor - thoughts on the goal that wasn't? I couldn't care less; if the Ukranians want to use video to prove that it went over the line then we can use video to prove that the guy was also a mile offside.. |

But here in Finland it is pretty useful. We close down our towns if the temperature raises above 10 degrees celsius!

Yep, it's swings and roundabouts. The only reason I might've wanted it to count was because a draw would've meant the next match is on Saturday (lots of booze) rather than on Sunday (no booze). |

Louisville is notoriously pathetic when it comes to this; our public schools often close before a flake of snow hits the ground! At least in Oregon it took 3-4 inches of snow before they would close. We did have a huge snowfall here (before my time) that was 14-16 inches that truly shut the city down. Personally I don't mind driving on snow at all (it's the other drivers I worry about), but ice is a different story . . . |

When I was living on Long Island, the last 2 major snowfalls we had literally cut me off from the "mainland". It wasn't that dire in terms of being stranded but all trains/buses/parkways were, for lack of a better term - dead still. I took a picture of the mound of snow on my front yard, emailed it to my boss and said "Out". |
