Don't expect to have fun with this one! ;)
I know I won't, but my sister somehow will :P She was the one during Paranormal Activity 2 (which actually wasn't all that bad) that, when the lady was being dragged down the stairs, shouted "MY ASS! IT HAS NO GRAVITY!"
Hahahaha, you compared Martyrs to Paranormal Activity! ;)

One is a slice of popcorn spooky cinema.

The other has a five minute sequence of a girl being repeatedly punched in the face while sad music plays.

Guess which is which.

On a lighter note...

There are bad films. Transformers 2, Spiderman 3, etc.
There are films that are so bad they're painful. Mega Piranha, Hell Night, etc.
There are films that are so bad they're good. Jack Frost, Toxic Avenger, etc.

Then there is The Room.

I can't say enough good things about this film. It is without a doubt THE worst film ever made. Plan 9 From Outer Space can go take a hike; it's very old and was intended as a B-movie anyway. The Room was clearly intended to be a serious drama about a love triangle; the only problem is that absolutely EVERYTHING about it is godawful. The acting, the dialogue ("Oh hi Mark. How's your sex life?"), the blatant overdubbing, the huge plot holes (one character says they have breast cancer; the issue is never mentioned again. one character disappears completely later on. three men play football in tuxedos in an alleyway for absolutely no reason. and so on), the music, the sex scenes.... Honestly, it has to be seen to be believed. I knew it was going to be bad, but I have honestly never laughed so hard at a movie.

It's been like 5 years since it was released and it is still being shown at least once a month in cinemas. It's become a proper cult movie. People go dressed up as the characters, yell at the screen at certain times, throw spoons at the screen...

Here is a sample scene (mild spoilers)

If you enjoy having a good time then buy/download this work of utter genius, get your buddies round and say "O HAI" to them, pour yourself a nice big Scotchka and settle in for the best 100 minutes of your life. Srsly.

I just went and saw Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol in IMAX (not 3D surprisingly). I can't really say much other than it was just amazing! It was a whole movie of almost nothing but suspense. I didn't really know what to expect with the IMAX, since I really don't like 3D movies, and most IMAX are in 3D. I think it really added to the experience because it would vibrate sometimes so that you could actually feel it. There were times when the vibrations were so strong and at such a good time, that I was about to jump out of my seat because I was so startled by it.

Overall, this was one of the best movies I've seen for quite a while. I think this is definitely worth seeing.

We've had a topic for movies for months. Excuse me while I go and merge this one in with that one ;) Though I'm glad MI is good - but then it is JJ Abrams, right? ;)

First up are a couple of motorbike films, the first being 'Fastest' - this is a strange film about the MotoGP that came out last year but had no marketting or promotion and only had at most two showings across 20 cinemas, it was only by chance that i happened to catch it for the single showing it had here. I expected it to be completely rubbish but thought it would be good to see the MotoGP bikes on the big screen if nothing else. I was completely wrong, the film was superb from the moment it opened with the incredible late battle between Rossi and Lorenzo in Spain a couple of years ago and pretty much all the way through. It doesn't follow a particular championship, it sort of wanders around talking about the different riders, their backgrounds, the safety of the sport, the engineering etc. which does a great job keeping the film well paced. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend the film to MotoGP fans and also to those who are motorsport fans, I had recommended it to my brother who managed to get it shown at the local theatre he works and loved it again. The reason for the strange release is that they mucked up distribution rights in the US so they decided to give it a preview screening in Europe and apparently it will get a proper showing in the US and Europe this year. fastestgpmovie on Youtube has a selection of clips, here's one I like from the start:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edYs5ZxFoxc

Also on the motorbike theme is TT3D: Closer to the edge which is a more conventional film about the Isle of Man TT event, something I didn't know much about and didn't know the results which made the film all the better. For those not familiar with this event it's a road race on the Isle of Man that is incredibly dangerous, in fact I don't know it can still exist as every year people die or are seriously injured. Unlike GP racing where there are wide tracks and long run offs the TT is run on public roads most of which are narrow and have many obstacles along the side, many of the shots in the film are breath taking as the bikes just go at incredible speeds which is highlighted by the blur that is the scenery behind them.

Lastly it's Watchmen which seems to garner very mixed opinion, those who like the graphic novel claim the film is too basic and those who haven't don't like the film as it's too close to the graphic novel. I'm somewhere in between, I'm not really a fan of graphics novels as they just don't really work for me as I prefer a standard book to get more details on something so I enjoyed Watchmen partially because it's not really the typical superhero film. I also think the changes made from the graphic novel improve it particularly the ending.

God I love Watchmen. That, Kick-Ass and The Dark Knight are pretty much the cream of the crop when it comes to superhero film. Watchmen also has the dubious honour of having one of the best movie sex scenes outside of a porn film. But hey ;)

I actually got the Director's Cut of Watchmen on Blu Ray for my birthday but between the temporary dismemberment of my 5.1 system and trying to find a clear 3.5 hour gap to watch a film, I haven't yet managed to watch it. One day...

That's the ultimate cut that's three and a half hours long as it includes the Black Freighter sections, I don't actually like that version as it's just too long and the Black Freighter sections don't feel part of the film so it's almost like ad breaks taking you away and dropping you back in. It seemed to work ok in the original graphics novel but not for the film, the Director's cut for me is far better as it's solid Watchmen action all along. I was through meeting some friends and chatting away and we were talking about the Hallelujah track which is one of my friend's favourites, I could remember a more controversial use of the music but couldn't think what. When I got home I spent a while looking through where it had been used (which is a lot) and finally came to Watchmen and it was that sex scene I was thinking of.

I forked out to see Underworld: Awakening at the weekend as I enjoyed the previous three films and the new one isn't bad at all, it's much simpler than the second film which is probably a reasonable choice as Evolution seemed to confuse a lot of people. I would advise against reading anything of it as even simple casting information will spoil the film and the best part I'd say is it's a bit unpredictable with a few twists. My main complaint was having to fork out £11 for the film at a standard cinema which is crazy, I could only see it in 3D which I normally avoid but didn't want to miss the film entirely as it's the sort that's good for the cinema.

I was watching Firefly and Serenity today which in a sense I really despise as it's a horrible reminder of just how much potential was wasted, at least they managed to release a film to finish off the story.

Just went and saw Men in Black 3, and it was great! It was kind of a prequel and sequel at the same time (because of time travel). Best quote ever: "You know, I'd have no problem pimp-slapping the shiznit out of Andy Warhol."

I saw that on its midnight premier! It was awesome! :D

That line made me LOL... out loud! Although, I had NO idea that the dude who played Boris was Jemaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords! Kinda shocked me when I saw him in the credits :P

I want to watch MiB3, but for me this year, there were/are four very important films on my SERIOUSLY MUST WATCH list:

  • Avengers (Assemble)- Watched it recently, and enjoyed it massively. I also pre-ordered and bought the score soundtrack, but not the standard version, but a non-limited exclusive edition from Intrada Records, which has an extra track and longer track times for certain scores (tracks). Great film and music! :yay:
Here is another link for this particular soundtrack.

  • Prometheus- I don't need to explain this one, but this is one of two major films for me. It answers a > 20 year question about the gigantic alien skeleton from the first Alien film, is directed by Ridley Scott, and the entire film is shot in 3D using proper 3D cameras (this means that the 2D versions of the film were post processed, 3D is the original format). The trailers, cast and look of the film look mind-blowing!
Going to watch this on Friday hopefully

  • The Dark Knight Returns- The other equally major film to watch. I <3 The Dark Knight and enjoyed Batman: begins, so this last of the trilogy film by Christopher Nolan should be epic.
I have deliberately avoided most trailers, as I want to see this film with absolutely no spoilers of any kind. I do, however, know about Catwoman and bane, which made me :faint: . Can't wait!!! :cloud9:

  • The Hobbit- Originally this was a major film on my list of films for this year, but I have become quite uninterested in the last few months. I have heard some rumours from some partially completed scenes pre-shows, and the feedback was not great. I guess this is a wait-&-see film. Plus, I need to watch this film to complete the series of films...
I'm quite  about this one...

See now I'm kinda scared that, post-GoT, I'm going to find The Hobbit weird without anyone graphically fucking their relatives or repeatedly saying "cunt" etc.

Watched Immortals last night. I LOVE greek mythology but this movie disappointed with it's inaccuracies overall. Hyperion was a Titan, not a King. And I hate when they "mortalize" or scale to realism. The Minotaur should've been a fucking Minotaur, not a crazy brute with a mask. It was awesome to watch though. I also hated the undead warrior look of the Titans. I accepted the Gods but Zeus just always appears in my head with the big white flowing hair and beard.

Excellent action movie though.
