It's also likely to have six times the pricetag! "... multi-display support" OOOOH!

If they release it like they did with the 360S, I may just buy the Arcade version and find a way to use a cheap hard-drive with it! |

According to outside sources: they said 6 times the power. With a modified ATi HD Radeon 6670 graphics board. Also will have processors that are faster and more powerful which supposedly is to help the kinect rack your movements better. As well as 3D display and a blu-ray drive. There was also some rumors that the new 720 would somehow make used games not function on it, only new games. Edited by Lor3t0, Jan 27 2012, 10:46 AM.

Moore's law is 18 months = 2 times faster! So 6 times faster = 4.5 years later? How long has it been? Mayr it'll be the same price! haha

Actually Moore's law claims nothing of the sort as it refers to transistor density not outright performance, currently the transistor shrinking is still in line with prediction but it's expected to slow down next year. Increasing transistor density doesn't directly correlate to raw performance particularly as a few years back Intel hit problems when they attempted to scale their processor speed up past 4Ghz, hence over the last few years die shrinks now bring more cores, more caches, onboard GPU, PCI-E controller, memory controller etc. to take advantage of the smaller transistors. One of the difficulties faced with Kinect was keeping the cost down was its sophisticated machine vision recognition systems required a lot of processing, the initial design was meant to have more hardware in the unit itself but that was chopped in favour to save money and instead use the Xbox's hardware instead which wasn't as fast. Also Kinect is limited on bandwidth due to it effectively using a standard USB bus which means its capture resolution isn't as high as it could be. Clearly with Kinect on the go from the outset any new Xbox will be more customised to be able to offer a much better vision capture system. As odd as it sounds I'm not that excited about a new Xbox or Playstation as the focus on casual gaming, touch control and motion detection systems over the last couple of years is concerning as I have no interest in any of it. I'm a bit concerned that the Vita seems to focus on fixing absolutely nothing of what was wrong with the PSP bar the dual analogue sticks although will be happy to be proved wrong on that as portable gaming seems to have died a messy death for me at the moment. They've actually started making wires 1/6 the size of a human hair thin. Imagine that! |

I'm not buying it if it's called an "Xbox 720". I'm hoping that the inevitable Kinect 2.0 that will undoubtedly come packaged with it works in smaller spaces than the current Kinect - as it stands, Kinect only works in one room in my house and it's not where my Xbox normally lives, so I'm missing out on all the cool voice control on the dash right now. An in-built Blu Ray player would be nice too but I'm not too fussed. I have a standalone Blu Ray player for that. Give me a Halo game or a DOA game on launch and I'll be your dirty little whore on release day, Microsoft.

I'll want to see it in action, because graphics are fine with me right now - but two things that stand out to me are: Blu-rays are 6x the resolution of DVDs 6x the power of Xbox360 is only 20% more powerful than WiiU. I really didn't think the WiiU was that far above the existing Xbox360 ( again, not that I care that much about raw graphics - I like specific art styles ). |
