GAME IS FUCKED Yep, Game group are about to be wiped of as a standalone business. A shame, but it is there fault for being douchebags and doing very bad bullying tactics against competitors/game developers and publishers/banks/and the customers. Stupid Game is stupid, but I also feel for them. I think I may have a problem.

OH NO WHAT A SHAME I THINK I MIGHT GO AND CRY. Or not. Sad for all the poor minimum wage people who are about to be out of jobs and all, but I couldn't give two shits about GAME as a business. Also this report does not apply to Gamestation. Who are owned by GAME. So... |

I really want to hate Game. No really, I DO, but I have had nothing but good service from them ever since I first got my hands on my first handheld videogame console: GameBoy (Classic) Yellow with Donkey Kong Land. BEST GIFT EVER!!!!! Right now, I feel bad because I prefer to actually visit the Game retail shops, and decide want I want in the shop and talk to some of the guys I know who work there. Yes, I always check online first before I make a purchase, but I usually order games online that are bigger than a standard game size and/or is not available in shops. I also get massive Reward Points that I use to full effect; three weeks ago, due to the news of Game suffering, I used all £16.71 in Reward Points on my Game Reward Card to purchase a game, something I was initially saving up for Max Payne 3 Special Edition out in May. I enjoyed the customer service in the retail shops in my town, had many good deals I made with them, had some exclusive stuff I got from them, and as a place to hold my pre-orders to pick up in person. In other words, I am losing a part of my gaming chores; to interact with people, and see physical games, before I make any purchases. I did this before I had internet availability, which is still fairly recent (2008 in my family home), and when I was a child (yes, I am still a child, leave me alone) I loved going to Game to see what was up. The business side of Game was probably shitty, but I think this is a bit too much; I rather see Game survive, but have a better business management, and (at least where I live) continue to have good employees (I have not had a bad experience with any Game shop, or with any Game employee, in any of the retail stores I have been to around the country. Gamestation, on the other hand... ).On that note, if Game goes down, so will Gamestation; I can't see the latter not having the exact same issues as the former. |

I couldn't care less if Game went down the pan, the only item I've bought from them recently is a GoW Xbox and that's only because I couldn't buy it elsewhere. Their prices are high, their range of games is poor (unless you want to buy one of their pre-vandalised preowned games) and the staff (bar a few exceptions and they never stay long) are people who don't really give a toss about their job. While there is some value to me to be able to go and look at a camera instore or similar, it's not the same for a game as online I can get far more information about a game and make the decision there, plus it's likely I can get the game brand new cheaper than Game would offer it for preowned. The rewards points, particularly over the last couple of years where they've really dropped in value don't come anywhere close to making up the price difference. I was thinking about how many stores do I actually care about it in town and when I go shopping is now just for the sake of it? Probably very few for the first question and yes to the second, I don't buy CDs or blu-rays in HMV because their prices are ridiculous and I only occasionally buy items from PC World or Jessops where I've used the collect and reserve which I suspect doesn't make them much money. I'm guessing that the two branches where I live are different, then, to everywhere else, as the staff and range of games is great and massive (respectively); then again, one of the stores is considered a miniature flagship store, and is fairly large. As I said before, I enjoyed talking to the staff there, got discounts, got good reward points, and used their online services a massive amount, and they did have extra content that some places cannot boast. For example, the new Wither 2 game for the Xbox 360 has a special variant called the The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Exclusive Dark Edition, which is being sold in the UK only at Game, and for not much more than the standard version. I think the biggest part that I will lose out on is the discounts and reward points, because I have often got both enough to purchase games without using cash (such as my recently acquired The Darkness II got with just my rewards card last month), and childhood nostalgia. However, I agree with your other points, as I don't use HMV or PC World (or Jessops...) Edited by TheOneInYellow, Mar 26 2012, 10:14 AM.

If Game aren't around to offer special versions of games and consoles then I suspect other companies will be offering them instead as they weren't made specially by Game. Also I cannot see that you are getting enough discounts to make purchasing there cheaper than elsewhere, on new releases Game are usually £8 or more expensive and usually with savage cuts by retailers that price difference quickly opens up. I bought BF3 and the expansion last week for £25, the game alone in Game is a massive £39.99. I've seen games get under £18 so the Jersey based retailers can avoid the taxes while Game are still selling at £39.99. The rewards points weren't great in their original form but I find them pretty much worthless these days, even the purchase of a console is only worth a few points. John |

Again, you are right on many of your points, including such special offers being put on to other retailers, but until this year, that was not (always) the case for me. Also, as I said earlier, I do get further 'discounts' at the two Game stores where I live due to:
So, I think that the two Game stores in my city are different to other places, based on opinions shared here. Finally, reward cards are not a priority, but have helped me, for three years now, obtain new games consistently with these two Game shops; I usually get just under £200 worth of new games for free per year, from them. So when I say this is a sad loss, it is more a sad loss for me, as I won't get such deals any more. I also was not getting good deals this year due to the issues with Game, of which, as of today, have gone into administration. |

I'm trying to find out if this is UK only or all GAME stores... I guess it's just UK for now. I feel for all UK gamers right now (and the ones who lost there job), hard times. List of closing GAME stores Edited by Eskobar M92, Mar 26 2012, 11:31 PM.

To be fair though that is a massively unusual situation which was likely to stop at some point as it's unlikely it should have been happening in the first place, everyone else has to put up with high prices and poor choice so it's no surprise it's the end of the stores. John |

Spot on. If we remove this particular situation of these two stores where I live, then I agree, Game is pants However, the loss of jobs will be felt, and is a great loss. And no matter what anyone says, this is a sad loss for the UK, as Game is our very own, self-owned company, that has now gone to administration.

I know for one that my town will suffer if game AND gamestaion go, becuase thats all we really have, we have a CEX, but alot of the time they are short stocked, because gamestation is set right across from them, and GS always tell their customers, "go and see what they would offer you, then come back here, and we will give you BLAH BLAH % more, but all employers in both branches have always been really helpful, then theres the ones that just wonder around the shops being very -y....... but yes, thats just for my town, i understand others might not be so lucky :/ and with the online predicament, it is a shame

I don't really see it a sad loss for the UK as I don't think they were very good and I haven't relied on them for a long time, almost all my purchases are all online and for the impulse buys for a launch day game I can still use the supermarkets. John |

Online is killing retail. It's not just game shops - HMV are now the only real high-street music store, and they're trying to charge £17.99 for an album that's new on Amazon for less than a fiver. It's a shame, but that's the price of progress etc. |

We agree to disagree, but not on whether Game is good or not, but on its impact. I know that my friends will lose jobs, as will others, and in this climate, losing jobs is a serious Otherwise, I take on, and agree to a certain point, on many of the points you have raised. Thank you for a nice, informed discussion, and great that we can do that on here (rather than the Waypoint forums ). This is very true. I prefer brick-&-mortar & online, mainly due to face-to-face conversations and in-store deals, as well as the convenience of the internet. I rather move my ass physically to get a game (and since music/electronics/other cool stuff), since I loved doing that when I was a kid, with all the emotions prior-to/during/and post-sale
