this is usually what I do too, or buy the mp3 of the album on sale at Amazon (each month they have a bunch of $5 mp3 albums, here at least). Then I burn it onto CD and rip it into ITunes for my ancient Ipod Nano! |

@Yellow - MOG seems to be an interesting alternative to Spotify. Not sure I'm willing to restart playlists and convert. @Scruff - Late last year I finished ripping our CD collection (the wife and I, close to 400). I too used to be oldskool. iTunes removed DRM many moons ago which was the last step to get me to convert to a purely digital experience. The only CDs in the house are either blank or autographed. With the library stored in the iTunes and Google clouds, if I needed to, I could download the entire library in the event of a device failure of some kind. |

I usually purchase CD's the old-skool way, but I've found myself buying a lot of MP3's off of Amazon lately. I have a 160GB iPod Classic that I use to hold pretty much all of my music, movies, and pictures. I then have my library synced with Google Music, so I can listen to music whenever I don't have my iPod on me (which is pretty much never), or when I'm out running (because running + devices with hard drives = badbadbad). I usually find new music on Spotify, but I don't have a Premium account. |

I am very old skool; as I said, I rip all my physical CD collections into a lossless format, and play back using complicated methods to make sure the audio is a pristine as possible (buffer sizes, correct audio sampling and bit-rate selected, PC running optimally, bypass the OS audio interface, and so forth). On top of the above, I download high-resolution audio from different distributors, such as Linn Records, HDTracks, or Blue Coast Records, to name a few. The higher-resolution refers to higher than the RedBook standard (CDDA, or CD's, which are 44.1 kHz/16 bit), usually at 24 bit and from 44 kHz to 192 kHz (and sometimes higher, but that does not apply to me). I won't go into the debate about whether higher quality means higher quality, or if you can hear the differences, as this topic will make me write a post that will end this forum (or destroy my sanity). It is too difficult to explain. Spotify is a great introduction to music I have never heard off yet, to try new music before purchase, or just to listen to a wide assortment of music I have no access too, but where I usually do not want to pay for the actual album/songs; here, paying a small fee per month works out, but I don't like the odd poor quality sounding tracks. Also, Spotify is not bit-perfect, as you cannot use ASIO or WASAPI modes to bypass the operating system Audio Interface, which is a shame. There is an open-source version of Spotify, called Fidelify, that works around this and adds other interesting features, but it is super buggy, is undergoing an date that has been delayed for ages, no social features, and is not very user-friendly. I am happy to jump ship as soon as MOG goes live in the UK (provided it offers the same features and benefits our friends over the pond have), though re-doing playlists will be a bitch. As for iTunes cloud service: iTunes Match Review (Article Formerly Known As - iTunes Mismatch Review). Sorry, but current Cloud Services for music does not make me happy at all.

In most cases (DVDs, Blu Rays, magazines, books) I am growing tired of physical things cluttering up my house. But CDs I will always prefer over MP3s. I have an MP3 player of course and it's very useful indeed, but listening to music on a crappy MP3 player through £15 headphones, or from my computer on two speakers with zero bass whatsoever, is not going to be anything on listening to a CD through my DVD player which is connected to a Ministry Of Sound bass-heavy & loud & intelligent 5.1 surround sound system which converts music into 5.1. SRSLY. |

Favourite albums at the moment covering a plethora of genres (with links to example songs): Rolo Tomassi - Hysterics (Nine) Richmond Fontaine - Winnemucca (Western Skyline) The Fray - Scars & Stories (Heartbeat) Kelly Clarkson - Stronger (Honestly) Yes I like Kelly Clarkson. Yes I'm OK with that. Disliking things because they're popular is for 15-year-olds

If folk metal/singing in extinct languages is your thing, check out Eluveitie. New favorite of mine! Also, we were singing I'm Gonna Be by The Proclaimers at my friend's grad party, and I can't get that song out of my head now... |

I'm the furthest thing from an Iron Maiden fan. Probably had a "phase" that lasted six months, 18 years ago. I went to an Iron Maiden concert last night. First show in their Maiden England tour where they're revisiting Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. The opening act was Alice Cooper, who was surprisingly better than I expected and closed with Schools Out. It was at a Pavilion and we had lawn seats. (Look at all those lighters, I mean mobile phones) Overall it was a great experience, engaging performance and good music. I think I got a contact buzz in the process.

(keep in mind that I'm literally in a club in Tampa DJ'ing a gig while I type this. I fucking kid you not). Previous played: Cinema by Benny Benassi ft. Gary Go (Skrillex Remix) [I know, fucking Skrillex] Currently playing: Vava Voom by Bassnectar ft. Lupe Fiasco [your daily dose of urbanism] Next up: Innocence by Nero [I wub wub wub dubstep] People cream their panties over cliche dance and dub. Sorry for sounding angsty! I got free wi-fi here, and typing/using my laptop makes me look like I'm doing something important inbetween tunes. |

FUCKING SKRILLEX!!! ARRRRGGGGGGHHH But you're forgiven cos the Nero track is alright (for dubstep...) Never really got into Lupe Fiasco, with the one exception of his version of Daydreamin', which is still awesome six years on. |

Since Brandi mentioned the new Linkin Park album in the other thread, I thought I'd bring it back up in the proper thread. I'm diggin it more than A Thousand Suns and Minutes. I really miss their Hybrid Theory and Meteora sound. Shinoda had much more intricate and noteworthy rhymes and styles and Chester used more aggression with his vocals. I'm totally for his soft singing, dude has an amazing voice all around, but sadly I miss his gimmick. I totally applaude their evolution and freedom of doing what they want instead of just doing the same things over and over...which I'd still want if it were the aforementioned sound but that just means if they go back to it, it'll be all the more sweeter. |

I like everything from Hybrid Theory to Living Things, but I kinda find myself liking their more recent stuff more. The thing is, I'm not entirely sure why. I don't care if they continue what they're doing or go back to the Hybrid Theory/Meteora sound. It would be nice to hear their older sound come back, but I just don't think it's really who they are anymore. All I know for sure is no matter what they do, it always sounds great! |

I have a very bizarre taste in music. Sometimes I prefer vocals overall, other times it's guitar and the rest is a blend. My favorite bands pretty much all stem from the mid 90's to early 2000's. Almost everything nowadays is shit to me. I have a big soft spot for 80's heavy metal and composed classical music *gettin old* Metallica, Evanescence, Staind, Godsmack, (old) Korn, Disturbed, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, Slipknot, AC/DC, Breaking Benjamin, etc. |
