Mainly due to my current reading about Marvel possibly cancelling and rebooting Avengers: Earths Mightiest Heroes to coincide with the upcoming film. I'm very much against this and mostly blaming Disney due to their recent acquisition and since EMH started before said collaboration.

The show is a huge hit on it's own without fanboy support.

More on the actual topic though, which Comic Corporation do you prefer above all? Mine is Marvel preferably for it's extremely large recognizable cast and overall popularity in about every iteration. I love DC but it's just too "back-alley Noire" for my taste.

Haven't read comic books for a while, but was pretty big into them as a teenager (which, ahem is over two decades ago, ahem). That said, I would have to say Marvel for the same reasons you mentioned. My favorite was Spider-man because almost everybody underestimated him because of his size, but he could often take down guys much stronger than him.

Loved the series Secret Wars

Also love the Avengers and the X-Men (esp. Wolverine!)

Though I only followed the "Civil War" stuff very loosely, I HATE that they killed off Cap!

(a pet peeve in general is when they kill off comic book characters, they almost always bring them back, i.e., Superman)

Superman was a HUGE debate b/c "how do you kill of the symbol of Truth, Justice and the American Way" for an American comic hero?? That bothered me but I accepted it.

With Marvel, there's the whole Multi-Verse aspect that softens the blow of killing off a character.

Spidey is my ultimate favorite for many reasons.

-Lives in Queens, NY - My hometown!

-He was the first "youth" Superhero that wasn't in any sort of sidekick light i.e. Robin, Bucky, etc.

-He dealt with just as many personal problems including loss of parents/uncle, school, etc.

I LOVED Civil War!! It gave such a serious breath to the series as a whole and finally touched on something that was always overshadowed in the X-men series but now went further - The Mutant Registration Act. Making it the Super-Hero Registration Act fueled the fire and widened the playing field. That aside, it did great branches with Cable & Deadpool, House of M and Planet Hulk/World War Hulk.

The Hulk is my second favorite for the fact that he's a good guy viewed as a threat. For someone as destructive and uncontrollable, he's been just as praised and honored than feared as a monster. He's been part of the Avengers since the beginning, The Defenders which I believe was all Gamma heroes and (attempted) to rule the planet Sakaar in peace. He's an amazingly tragic character.

Marvel also had the incorporation of my favorite "theories" - The "What If" comics usually telling a pivotal point in the Marvel universe from the opposite effect. i.e - What if Bruce Banner and not The Hulk landed on Sakaar? Obviously, Banner would be man-meat in little time but it's an interesting take on most of Marvels important moments.

I felt like Cap's death was similar to the objections you mentioned re: Superman, but I saw the huge symbolism in the guy who represents everything we love about the US getting offed in the fight over superhero registration!

This was my favorite Spiderman battle (vs. Firelord)because Firelord so outmatched him it made Spiderman's victory all the more sweet! My favorite scene is when he got tired of out-running Firelord (former herald to Galactus) and took a stand and just kept punching until Firelord was down. The Avengers show up just then (the city is half-demolished by this time) but Spidey doesn't need any help! YES!!! Here's s page from it: Posted Image

My only argument with that panel is that he's wearing the Black Suit. That suit amplified his abilities insanely! However, it's an old comic so it's not taking into account the vulnerability the Black Suit has to fire so yes, that's an awesomely outmatched win.

You pit him against anyone of his arch-nemesis' - Sandman, Venom/Carnage, etc and he's always come out on top. Spidey is just too agile and sleek.

And Cap didn't die during Civil War. He DID accept being arrested b/c they were arresting Steve Rogers, not Captain America according to him. I loved that run b/c Cap was the one to pretty much "Rebel" against his own country and he was right to do it. The mask stood for something and he fought rightly for it. Just a shame they lost Goliath during the cause to a Thor clone.

I realized that the Black suit (gained in the Secret Wars off-world) amplified his powers somewhat but I don't remember it making a huge difference, at least back then.

I thought Cap got sniped?! (I obviously am VERY out of the loop!)

The Black Suit amplified everything about him - agility, reaction, strength, etc. During the earlier iterations, it was mostly cosmetic until they branched into Venom.

Cap was sniped somewhat AFTER Civil War and I'm not even too sure but there's a whole alternate universe blending where supposedly Bucky was able to implant his mind into the current Cap. It's confusing but it explains some.

Much of a lover that I am of collecting comics (moreso Graphic Novels/Compilations), and as someone who HATES waiting on subscriptions (thanks to my childhood variants of impatience due to Amazing/Web of/Sensational Spiderman, Captain America, Punisher: War Journal and various others, I much prefer waiting for the full shabangabang), I am actually rather glad that Marvel offers not only cheap/free downloadable apps for mobile devices but their website overs tons of free online reads all the time!

<---Catching up

OMG! Civil War is by far my favorite series as of late. Next (though kind of linked to) Planet Hulk and World War Hulk, Civil War just sucked me in to almost every medium. I have the main story arc, Peter Parker/Spiderman, The Road To and Cable & Deadpool.

I read parts of the Cap/Iron Man ones too. They just dig deeper with their reasons for their siding. I want to read the Thunderbolts one and X-Men.

Just came across this gem that I hadn't heard of. You know you have a great character on your hand when you give him a title continuity for "X Kills The Franchise" with Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe

I remember hearing about a possible issue surrounding a huge Marvel Characters Poker Game. Apparently, it's just been something referenced/lightly used in various issues. I would love for them to make an actual issue just to see how the list of heroes take to "Checks". Being a Poker Player myself, this would tickle every fancy.

I have some thoughts about Marvel's Civil War series that are beginning to congeal, but I will wait until I finish reading what I've got checked out from the Library:
Civil War: Road to Civil War
Civil War: Fantastic Four
Civil War: Thunderbolts

It's got a fantastic back story, so-to-speak. The Road To Civil War is great and will explain a bunch of things about how the Super-Human Registration Act comes into play. It covers many other elements as well like Planet Hulk and The Skrull/Kree War.

You're actually going to begin to despise Stark after it.
