There's supposed to be
Dr. Strange Ant Man (and Wasp) The Vision Hawkeye (featuring Widow and possibly Bullseye - Not Colin Farrell) Nick Fury
As far as I've heard that are at least being drafted with treatments.
Spoiler: click to toggle But on the subject, I thought Coulson was the perfect catalyst but he became too much of a mock-character as the films progressed. His final words were even humorous but luckily, it all panned out well.

I think Nick Fury as a title of a movie would be fine, but I do think at some point they need to tell the Black Widow "origin" story. Not the entire program necessarily, though they could touch on it, but Natasha Romanov for sure.
I think within the confines of a Nick Fury movie, they could hit a brief origin of Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Agent Coulson.
One friend said her only complaint was Hawkeye's lack of an origin story, another friend said her only complaint was Black Widow's lack of an origin story.
Since ScaJo is onboard with doing a BW origin, I say go for it - and have Joss write/direct it.

Regarding Coulson:
Spoiler: click to toggle Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the specific dialogue of that scene made it appear as if his injury was open ended - rather they never confirmed he was actually dead. In the context of the scene, Fury as all like "Get emergency help here STAT!" and an agent was like "He's already been taken away", therefore they never actually said he was dead, despite him arguably appearing to me.
Please, he's Coulson. He's been in every movie building up to the Avengers. I'd bet my money he's not dead and he'll return in the next one.
@Gengo - I agree. I would've liked a little more backstory for Hawk and Widow, but not an entire movie. There isn't enough interest and popularity of the characters to make a profitable feature film for a mass market.

Spoiler: click to toggle I agree with you that the scene (and what follows) certainly makes it ambiguous. Regarding the med team, Fury said "they called it" which usually indicates time of death. But Fury also talks about his death and the unsigned vintage trading cards "giving them the push they needed". Which makes it seems like it might have been staged. The biggest argument against that is that it is Joss Whedon writing and directing, and he loves to kill off fan favorites.
I think the origin for BOTH of those characters could be worked in to a Nick Fury story.
Overall story is the creation of SHIELD and Nick Fury. Interspersed (or when he first starts recruiting members) is intelligence reports, video footage, etc., on both of these, which leads to a switch to their point of view for a few scenes BEFORE they actually join up. Coulson could fit in there as well. Though Hawkeye would have to be recruited before BW to fit with the Avengers movie.

Are you kidding??? Some of people's favorites are the under-rated "powerless" kinds. Hawk and Widow could certainly have a decent original backstory written up to precede Avengers especially now.
I think if they're heavily backing a Dr. Strange movie, I think 2 characters that have already displayed their chops in their debuts have just as much if not more a chance of succeeding. ScarJo's been a hot item since Lost in Translation and The Island.
Being that Widow is infamous for double crossing, I could easily see a Widow Movie with some great plot twists and surprises. Hawk would be a little more difficult but you could always center it around his SHIELD career and delve more into that as well.
We've seen both these characters in action already and I think everyone can agree they were both successful.
Spoiler: click to toggle As for Coulsen...if they brought him back, it would be a pretty cheap gimmick. I mean...pretty much NOBODY died then and that's just playing into the old style of "Everybody Lives!" And let's focus on the big part - He's not a true Marvel character. Plus....what has he really done? I mean, he's been a filler in the build but obviously, he didn't have much of a role in Avengers aside from being obsessed with Cap really. Not saying he was garbage but I don't see a future for him. A past maybe...but not a future. You saw it. He died. He didn't "fake it" so Fury could sell it. To be honest, I really hope they're pushing him aside to introduce true characters like Dum Dum Doogan or Clay Quartermaine.

@ Yellow - That final scene was a US exclusive!!!

And fuck all that - Spoiler: click to toggle Hulk vs Thor. One punch!!! Although, I have to say...the best part of Hulk smashing Loki, BEFORE calling him a "Puny God" was Loki's fucking expression!!! Speechless had never been presented so well!!
I could not be more Trololol about this movie vs. everything DC at the moment. All DC has riding on it for close to 100% adaptation is The Watchmen. I KNEW, KNEW, I FORGOT TO ADD ANOTHER SCENE. DAMN IT!!!!!
But you are right, that scene, along with everything to do with ___, was awesome! The entire cinema goers, including my sister and me, laughed out loud at that scene

Spoiler: click to toggle I never said that he may or may not have died, just that he still has a contract to continue to play this character in future films under The Marvel Cinematic Universe, though yes, a backstory may be the most realistic. I also agree with you on your point about bringing in new characters too. However, I Coulson, and thought he brought a little comedy, humanity, and quirks that have made him a cult classic. I would be a betrayal if he is brought back after the events of The Avengers (Assemble), but depending on how it is written, it could work...
As for the rest of the comments, I agree with most. If a new Nick Fury film is made, then a combination of Black Widow (HULK SMASH DAT ASS) and Hawkeye, amongst other characters, can make a great backstory film, but I cannot see, nor would I be impressed (as far as I can see) individual films for those to characters to be great. However, I am not amongst the AWESOME writers who work within The Marvel Cinematic Universe, so my point here may be moot if they do produce such films.
Just to make a another note, The Marvel Cinematic Universe is amongst the rarest projects in cinematic history to continuously publish and create blockbuster films with at least above average or higher ratings and great financial returns. This project = WIN

Like I said, it was a small scene, no dialogue but entertaining.
Spoiler: click to toggle Contract can mean anything. Hiddleton still has a contract but it's either going to be cameo, flashback or a lead into Thanos. I'm not against Coulsen coming back but I don't see it happening. I agree with his rising popularity, I mean, they just started bringing him into the universes outside of the Cinema but the movies are what made him popular. I know they're bringing him into Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which is such an amazing modern adaptation of The Avengers...but I'm disheartened that now b/c Disney is swinging their Donald Dick around, I hear they may be rebooting it to more fit the movie. Stupid. Fucking. Move. The show is already a fairly noticeable success and if anything, is pretty close to the flick in respects. If you haven't seen this show, check it out (First season streaming on Netflix).
I know for a fact they're at least doing Thor 2 and Iron Man 3 before the next Avengers so we've got at least until 2017 the latest for a new Avengers. That gap should be filled with most of whom I mentioned prior even more so if Thanos is our antagonist. I'll bet half a quid he kills most of the heroes and obviously, someone destroys/manipulates the Cosmic Cube or destroys the Infinity Gauntlet to bring them back. They shouldn't be stupid enough to try to burn us ala Professor X again. I know so many people that didn't stay after X3 to see he'd "switched bodies" but even so...it obviously didn't pan out well b/c, well....there's been nothing but prequels thus far. They're most likely going to reboot it and I hope so.

Spoiler: click to toggle I will read up about Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but I am not so sure if I will like it...I'll come back to you on this later. Yes, you are right about the gap, which is why I am not getting my knickers [boxer shorts. Yes, I am not a girl, go figure...] in a twist, but I would like to see Coulson back in one form or another; if he is brought back post The Avengers (Assemble) time line, then I expect great script's, otherwise, it will be stupid. Ron playing Thanos makes be think of Ruffalo playing Banner; fantastic actors who fit the roles of fantastic characters. Seriously, EPICNESS!. I, too, hope for a similar, dark story for the next films. In fact, the darker, and grittier, the better. Hopefully without a cliché apocalyptic end world scenario (such as te film Knowing; great film marred by one of the worst endings for a film I have seen of films I have watched to date). I haven't watched X3 yet. Thanks...

Spoiler: click to toggle I'm betting on Ron Perlman or (someone compared yesterday) - believe it or not, I could see Laurence Fishburn. He's got Thanos' head. Perlman has his chin LOL.
People are saying Michael Clarke Duncan but I feel he failed his Marvel Exam with portraying Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin. So wrong in so many ways.
On Coulsen, he's better as a dead character. Fury is low...but that would be sadly deceptive. I'd totally take a flashback sequence or sticking him in Nick Fury's movie but as far as being alive, I can't even fathom a decent way to write that in. Again, the Avengers need someone/thing to Avenge. One must die to be avenged...

Just a few points: I loved the film, but there was one niggle that I could not shake; I never watched the canonicalised 'The Incredible Hulk' 2008 with Edward Norton, as it's on my to-watch-list-ASAP, but I love Norton, a lot. He is a great actor. Some of my friends, and the general response, was that he did good in the film. I'm only skimming this thread, since I haven't seen the movie yet & don't want it spoiled for me (thanks for all the spoiler tags peeps!), but this comment caught me eye.
The Hulk was a good movie, and I thought Norton did a good job with Banner (have yet to compare with Ruffalo, obviously); just wanted to add that the reason I liked the movie is because it followed the video game story pretty closely, The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, which is an awesome original Xbox game!

Annnnd this is where we bump heads. As far as how Hulk was presented, the 2003 had a very perfect look without using facial recognition (Ruffalo was the first to use his own face enhanced by CG). As an Origin, Hulk was much better if you ignore the Absorbing Man is his father and the fact that EVERY movie so far is missing Rick Jones, who's a HUGE part of The Hulks story. Now, my main argument for the 2008 is how they "rebooted" the origin but kept it as sort of following years after 2003's Hulk. Norton....fantastic actor but just does not fit "Bruce Banner". Norton is a phenomenal scumbag, retard and even a good guy. He just doesn't play the Nerd well enough. Ruffalo has played a geeky character well in a few things, most semi-notable Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Bana played a much more sincere, twitchy Banner but not as good as Ruffalo. Ruffalo sold me the second he was onscreen.

When you do get to compare Norton and Ruffalo, you'll shit brix, or in my case, simultaneously have your jaw dropped and Ruffalo really is Banner in the film, and is the most convincing comic book character, for me, in a Marvel film. He eclipsed Downey Jr., and that is by no mean feat at all.
I haven't played that game, mainly because, after the dismal 'The Incredible Hulk' 2005 film, I never watched the 2008 version properly (only saw a portion recently, working on watching it proper soon), nor did I know that it was part of The Marvel Cinematic Universe, so I completely missed anything to do with The Hulk until The Avengers (Assemble), and I'm working my way back to his storyline.

Yellow, I YOU!!!!!
Firstly, NEVER compare a game to the film. The game for a movie usually takes place like after or something like that OR it's a totally original addition to the story.
Action = Fun. Comparison = Shit.
Now, I could dispute "Who played who the best" until this Forum floods but I'll give my initial pro's and con's on each character compared to their comic counters. Again, fear my bias b/c I compare to the originals (Universe 616) rather than their true Ultimate inspirations. Blech. You already got my Hulk impressions:
Spoiler: click to toggle Stark - Downy has the look and the debonaire down to a T. My problem is, he's not suave enough. He's too "dirty" i guess you could say. Stark always seemed more swoony than sex-symbol. Downey comes off more like Hank Moody from Californication.
Thor - Easily the weakest character b/c of so many reasons. Hemsworth did a great job though. If anything, I just hated Hopkins as Odin. Thor seemed to "adapted" to earth already. His shining moment in Thor was breaking the coffee mug. He just never felt Godly or Old Worldly to me.
Cap - Especially for Avengers, he should've been bulkier. It was just reminiscent of the original Captain America movie. However, again especially in Avengers, Evans stood up as a character I would follow into battle. His "Leadership" was noted well and the one scene that defined his perfection is after one of the explosions in a building and he tucks behind his shield, MIDAIR MIND YOU, and just narrowly avoids being decimated. He was a very stalwart character after being such a dismal Johnny Storm. I also love how he "got the flying monkey joke", again, another perfect recreation of Cap being "out of place".
Hawkeye - He gets ONE argument - He didn't nor threaten to punch ANYONE in the face!! WTF?!?!?! Renner should've been blonde but otherwise, amazing!
You cant argue with Fury AT ALL b/c he's based off the Ultimate Fury and the irony there, the character is LITERALLY described as "looking/sounding like Samuel L. Jackson" hahahah.

haha
You and Yellow are much more into this stuff than I am, and that's cool. I am content just seeing my heroes come to the screen!
I was merely pointing out that the Abomination in the game (Ultimate Destruction) was very closely characterized by the movie version (Norton's Hulk).
I thought Norton was nerdy enough, but that's just my opinion. I look forward to Ruffalo's rendition.
On that note, I offer Thor's recent revealing some uncomfortable news

Firstly, NEVER compare a game to the film. The game for a movie usually takes place like after or something like that OR it's a totally original addition to the story.
Action = Fun. Comparison = Shit. You are indeed correct here, sir, but sometimes this is not the case. I trust Aslan and his thoughts, but I don't think I'll play the game in question; rather, INTERNET is my FRIEND (even though it does terrible things to my mind... ).

Now, I could dispute "Who played who the best" until this Forum floods but I'll give my initial pro's and con's on each character compared to their comic counters. Again, fear my bias b/c I compare to the originals (Universe 616) rather than their true Ultimate inspirations. Blech. You already got my Hulk impressions: Spoiler: click to toggle Stark - Downy has the look and the debonaire down to a T.
First, I have just recently got back into comics again. I am reading the new DC Batman #52 series, and will be venturing into Marvel soon after. Yes, I both DC and Marvel, I know I am not (supposedly) a true nerd, that I am an abomination
For that reason, though I do know about the Marvel Multiverse (though I now more of the DC Multiverse, especially after the comic series fifty-Two), I am not well-versed as how The Marvel Cinematic Universe basis its characters of which Marvel comic universe.
Now:
Spoiler: click to toggle - Hulk: SMASH!,
- Stark: Almost agree with you here, but that's not tottaly my problem with him; sometimes, he just doesn't feel like Stark at all. I cannot put my finger on this. It just happens. Downey, however, is a great Stark nonetheless, and I
him (only as Stark, not a fan of his role in the Sherlock Holmes films... ),
- Thor: Chris Hemsworth is a boring character as Thor, but it suits the role itself, and works flawlessly. It's an odd juxtaposition, but I am glad he is not the centre of attention, just off-centre, if you understand my point,
- Cap'n America: This was a perfect role, and the best way to describe that is to think about how I spoke about, in the Promethus thread, about the film Predators. Adrian Brody played a wiry soldier, who is strong but not muscle bound, has agile reflexes, and is quiet. I've loved Arnold Schwarzenegger as a depcition of soldiers (in films) when I was a kid, but as times moved on, this very clichéd characterisation was very fake and unimpressive in my later years. Brody was, and is, the best depiction of soldiers in Sci-Fi for me right now, and evokes other great film based soldiers from the Aliens film too
Hemsworth as Cap'n is the exact same, and I swooned over that. He is quiet, slightly unassuming, yet he does, in a very strange way, command respect (whereas Fury/Jackson commends respect because he is cool ), is strong, agile, and quick in thinking in terms of combat (as you yourself described in one of his scenes). So yeah, AWESOME!!!,
- Hawkeye: Seriously,
,
- Fury: This I did know about when I read an interview a few months back prior to watching the film, that Fury was based on Samuel L. Jackson which allowed Jackson to play Fury. I think the universe may melt.
Also, Jackson is Fury, and is only a smidgen less convincing than Tom Hiddleston as Loki, who is also just under Mark Ruffalo as Banner. Again,
- Loki: I don't want to say too much about this but Hiddleston is one fine actor, and portrays Loki well. My only gripe is that, when he acts to show that he is insane, he is not too convincing. It feels a little forced. Outside of that, he is very good.
- Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow: You forgot this vixen. Her ass, and her awesome prowess of interrogation (made me tear up in laughter, twice!). She is also a great fighter (and sexy whilst fighting). Also, legs. Also, EVERYTHING. Also, Scarlett Johansson is a great actress, and though this is not her finest role, she played a great role in both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers (Assemble). Also, RED HAIR!!!
.
Oh, btw, here is a cosplayer as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow:

Your welcome

No! No Butting of heads!!! haha You and Yellow are much more into this stuff than I am, and that's cool. On that note, I offer Thor's recent revealing some uncomfortable news Fair enough on Abomination but I hated his movie appearance. He looked like Creature From the Black Lagoon had it mated with Roger Clemens.
Hmm, I may have to go replay Hulk: UD now to see that. I remember it but I was actually more impressed with the Mech Variety and Devil Hulk.
Nahhh. Norton's too much of a badass. Ruffalo hasn't really hit those chops yet...'til he became the Green Goliath.

you gotta try Ultimate Destruction! you get to use a utility pole as a bat to see how far out to sea you can swing and hit soldiers! Also, get to destroy pretty much everything. great fun.
