I haven't seen all his films, but most of them. Most people seem to either love or hate them. Generally, I really like the way he tells stories; his approach is often very unique mixing suspense and terror in imaginative ways. I don't have a lot of time to write about this, but here are my favorites in order:

Signs (still gives me the chills though I've seen it umpteen times)
The Happening
Unbreakable
Sixth Sense
The Village
Lady in the Water
The Last Airbender (very disappointing)

haven't seen his "Devil" movie

I am looking forward to his new project (due June 2013) called After Earth, starring Will & Jaden Smith.

I'm <3'ing you more and more each day ;)

First off, I'm the first to say that Lady in the Water and The Happening RUINED his credibility and everyone associated with it. That's just me though. LitW was a bedtime story HE MADE UP FOR HIS KIDS!!! It should've stayed that way. Stupid concept with horrible execution.
The Happening...I didn't even give Leguizamo shit for The Pest

but this movie was just the bottom rung of stupid. Killer plants that kill with....i don't even know what it was. Reverse photosynthesis laced with SUCKERY if I had to guess. I hated it. I can't believe I sat through the whole thing too!!! 2 hours I'll never get back. NEVER!!!

Now...

Sixth Sense was just brilliant and a fresh dip into the Psychological-Twist Genre. Saw it in theaters and it freaked me out then as much as it does now.

I loved Unbreakable b/c I'm a comic fan. Taking it and turning it into a semi-real life concept was just amazing. I like the nervous/wary approach rather than "Holy shit!! I have powers!" In reality, it would be just as scary a thing as an amazement. You've got a whole new endless possibility of choices. Love it.

Signs. Most definitely my favorite! It played off on the brilliance of the Jaws notion where "The less you see, the more frightening the concept is". But it was the build. Sometimes you were under the impression it was a hoax, and then it takes some amazing drastic turns. God damned brilliant!!!

The Village is a practical tie b/c I love that idea. I would so do it due to my disdain for how much I despise the vileness of society. I'm not a people person per-se but I just prefer peace and quiet most of the time. If only I had the $$

I already gave my shine on Last Airbender.

Devil was pretty good in that it was one of those Real Time movies. It just had a great run of tension. The pacing and the build really worked for it. I'd recommend it if you liked Phone Booth, Buried and such.

haha, I'm one of the few people who liked The Happening I think :) Not my favorite, but it reminded me (as many of his movies do at times) of my beloved X-files! The idea of something happening to the air we breathe that would turn us into suicidal wackos (thus you can't really escape it) was intriguing for me (though I was annoyed with the environmentalist "the planet is striking back" message under it all). Seeing all those people frozen in time in that park was pretty eery.

I would add that once I know the "twists at the end," which he is pretty good at (esp. thinking of Sixth Sense and The Village) I'm interested in watching them again, but not with the same desire. My wife liked Lady in the Water much more than I did, maybe because they had to band together in relationships? I'm not sure - that devil dog thing that could flatten itself into the grass was pretty cool though :)

As for Signs, Mel's character and his struggle with faith is pretty interesting. Overall freaky moment for me is from that home movie of the kids b-day party and all you see is a glimpse of an alien - aahh! still gives me chills!

Hot damn you speak like I think!! Hahhahha

I just hated the idea of, like you said - The planet striking back. It's like my gripes with God about the whole Noah's Ark. You wipe out an entire planet b/c of a few bad apples but leave the supposed drunk to build an impossible "vessel" as well as stick 2 of every animal on it????

Yah-huh.

It had a few moments but not enough to keep me interested to give it any notion of positivity. I'll give you the X-files comparison defense for it though.

Agree with the re-watching/desire deal. I've watched the Village countless times. I'm one of those people that also look for things you might miss the first few times around.

200% agreement with Signs!!! I loved Mel's character and the kids. The kids mostly sold the whole flick for me. Bo was just adorable!

"Morgan took a sip and it has his amoebas in it!"

Makes me crack up EVERY! TIME!

And this!!! NOTHING will ever top this as greatest single moment in a movie

I thought the Sixth Sense was good, but is just one massive twist. It's a great twist, and is almost solely responsible for building the "SPOILER!!" culture we have now, but there's not much rewatch value once you know that Bruce is a ghost. I thought Unbreakable was absolutely fantastic. Everything since then I've thought was a crock of shit.. I stopped watching his movies after The Village.

Devil isn't really a Shyamalan film - it's directed by someone else, and written by someone else, based on a story Shyamalan wrote. It's alright; fairly predictable but amusing enough as a short, cheap slice of teen-friendly B-movie horror.

Also mad props for mis-spelling Shyamalan's name in the subject

Ok, I'm gonna be all opposite of y'all in terms of which of Shy llama man's films I like and don't.

I hated Sixth Sense. It was boring as hell, the twist was fucking obvious (in fact I have a mate who watched the whole film assuming he was dead anyway, so imagine what he thinks of it), and it just plain sucked.

I liked Signs. Lot of people don't, but I thought it was nice and creepy. No stupid over the top action/CGI scenes, no huge musical scores, just a quiet, almost X-Files esque approach.

And here's the one that will make other's think I've shit taste in movies - I fucking LOVE Lady in the Water. I think it's a beautiful film, a lovely story told with a simple, charming style. The music is great, the little funny bits are welcome (like the critic guy), and Paul Giamatti, as ever, is fantastic. Ok so he carries the film, Shy llama man strokes his ego a little too much by casting himself as a 'saviour of mankind', and the story-telling is a bit too simple in parts. But I like it, so shut up.

The Village was ok, but again had quite an obvious twist. Still, not exactly a bad film.

What was a bad film was the Happening. Movies like that are why I have no problem with piracy; not only do I resent paying £7 to watch it, but it's 2 fucking hours of my life I will never get back. What a steaming pile of shit it was. And yet it could've been a great comedy, eg playing It's Raining Men when those blokes are walking off the roof. But no, it was just pants.

That's all the films of his I've seen.

I think The Usual Suspects takes the credit for building the SPOILER culture.

It's fun to try different ways to say his name:
Shy Llama (Braythor)
I personally like Shama-lama-ding-dong
Shama Layangelou (based on my misspelling)
