Cool thread. I'll contribute. Musical inclinations: I have played the Sax and Clarinet, but it's been about 10 years. I can stroke the ivorys slightly more than Chopsticks (Mother is a classically trained pianist and attempted to teach me starting when I was five). I had a two year stint in a "band" when I was 17/18 where I played Bass and Acoustic guitar. I can still play them without causing harm to anyone within earshot. The exposure to piano, horns and bass is behind much of my obsession with EDM or electronic dance music. Tying instrument exposure back to a hobby, I am a novice "mixer" of EDM, using this and an old laptop. You can find a couple of old mixes on Soundcloud (search "ele", lemme know if you find it :P). I haven't revisited it in a while, but will soon. Beyond the usual sports, family, eating and other standard hobbies, I enjoy reading. Primarily non-fiction (Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens) but also Halo (and other Sci-Fi) and standard Horror (King, Koontz, etc). One book that I just finished reading, again, for the umpteenth time, is Crooked Little Vein by Warren Ellis. Already a fan of his graphic work, Crooked Little Vein is not for the soft at heart and really fucking awesome! |

Brandi and I fence. As in sword fighting. That's actually how we met, I was/am her coach. I used to be one of the coaches for the University of Texas' fencing teams. I have no musical talent whatsoever. I used to think I was a good artist, but then I met Brandi and saw some of y'alls stuff. So basically I am good at stabbing people and crushing children's souls. Like AJ, I also enjoy reading, mostly Halo and historical fiction. My favorite author is probably Jeff Shaara. @Aslan - my folks live in Eugene, it's beautiful up there, we also have a place in the Smokies, near Bryson City, NC. you have good taste. Coolest story EVER. Does Brandi draw too then? I think she should share! Never would have guessed that you guys are fencers. That's pretty much the awesomest hobby ever. I am jealous! |

Yeah we fence... Like Joshua said... he was my fencing coach when I was going to school down in Austin. I was taking a bunch of pre-pharmacy courses (even though I switched to nursing a semester in) and needed a fun class...I figured what could relieve stress and be a ton of fun: Stabbing people? Actually it just really sounded like fun... we didn't have anything like that in East Texas. Speaking of hobbies and such... I'm not very athletic, so not really into too many sports other than fencing. I like to take pictures (I have a few GB of photos I've taken on my computer), write (sometimes), and I really like to draw... but sadly I don't have any of my work digitized yet. I can play clarinet, but I haven't done that in a while so I prolly wouldn't last very long. I've worked with several art mediums, but I'm better with graphite and colored pencils though (love my PRISMA colors!). I'll have to try and scan or take photos of my artwork and try to figure out how to best put them online for ya'll to since you seem interested in seeing some of them. I've attached a few photos of Joshua and I in our fencing stances and a photo of Josh with his cowboy hat on from Collegiate Fencing Nationals when we competed there back in Spring of 2006 (It was in New England so we had to wear our cowboy hats of course! After all... what kind of cowboy/cowgirl from TEXAS can actually fence? ) . On Guard! ![]() ![]()

Ooh, awesome thread! ![]() Well, gaming and nomming on things that are terrible for my health are NOT the only things I enjoy doing (and this sentence is going to be taken in a dirty way in 3... 2... 1... cue Scruff). Unlike Sensory, I can't play basketball worth a shit. And I'm 6'4"! The most I can do is stand there and attempt to scare people off and maybe smack the ball out of the air if I'm lucky. I played soccer/football in 6th grade and enjoyed it, but it wasn't something I wanted to pursue further. I then decided to be a lazy-ass for two years, and in my freshman year of high-school, I joined the cross-country and track teams! From then on, running has been a huge hobby of mine! And in my junior year, I joined the nordic ski team and fell in love with that, too! I'm not the greatest at running nor skiing, but I love 'em both! I played flute in 6th grade. Yup, flute! Now, I mainly play guitar and drums and can play them semi-terrible! I can kinda-sorta play piano, as well!I can't draw worth a shit, so don't ask me to do anything super pretty, unless stick-figures are your thing! ![]() I also enjoy a good book or two, but it's been a while since I've had the time for pleasure reading. Speaking of which, I need to finish Fall of Reach!f I'm also always up for a good hiking/camping/hunting/fishing trip! As ASLANS said, Mt. Jefferson is an awesome place to go hiking! I also take the occasional trip and will try to run up the South Sister! As for fishing, I started in the Santiam River, and it's always been my favorite place. So many memories out on those cold banks in the forest! </reminiscing> I also got my boater's licence when I was 12 and love to take my grandfather's 50 HP outboard boat for a spin! |

I'm going to be in this area from July 14-21! Can't wait! Hoping to do some outdoorsy stuff with the fam. Crazy, where do you go boating? I love to go boating/fishing/camping at Lake Billy Chinook. Those stark cliffs, the huge lake, the pristine rivers, the wildlife, ahhhhhhh I look forward to stepping outside of my parents house near Sisters and catching the star show. When I was a kid I would lay out for hours watching the stars . . . |

Sweet. I also ran track in high school. I did the mile and the 2 mile. I assume you did the same, since you also mentioned cross country. In southeast Texas we did not, however, have a nordic ski team. I do enjoy a good run, which is why I did something foolish a few years back. After having taken about a year off to focus specifically on my fencing, I entered and ran a half marathon not having trained/ran in a long while. Cue tendonitis in my knee. The next day I competed in a fenicng tournament. I would crutch up to the match, win, and then crutch away to wait for the next round. Took 3rd. |

That would indeed, be awesome! I've never boated on Detroit Lake but always loved driving through on our way over Santiam Pass. I am always in awe of the dramatic change in water levels from Winter to Spring. My parents are at Billy Chinook this week camping. Still my favorite place to camp, 2nd might be along the Metolius River. |

There was a PE class at university. I took it and then joined the club, which led to tryouts for the team, which led to coaching. But mostly it is something that is just out there, albeit not well publicized. Most major towns and cities have a private club, and each country has an organizing organization that sanctions tournaments, etc. You just have to check the phonebook, look up the country's organization, etc. Fencing is big in Italy, so you could probably find it if you were interested. There is a fair amount in the UK too. In fact, most of my wife's equipment is from Leon Paul, the major brand from the UK. My stuff right now is mostly German, but next time I upgrade my coaching gear, it will be Leon Paul. |

I learned this not long ago. If you're a piano player, this isn't too hard. It's from ODST, my favorite Halo soundtrack. http://www.scribd.com/doc/45007914/Halo-3-ODST-The-Light-at-the-End |

Thanks! I've been swirling like 5 different story ideas around my head. Most of my inspiration comes from people I interact with and I WAS onto what I thought could've been a great project and it tanked due to some discomfort with representation and the actual people. Then I just lost all motivation and recently started talking over something with my buddy BigHerm36 (who's the Jackal neck snapper in this) but we wanted to base it around our game shenanigans. Then I got a similar inspiration from Lycan XIII and Math so I decided to merge 'em. I just didn't finish outlining their part so I cut it into a two part opening. First part introduces me and Herm and next we'll bring out Math and Lycan. Then I'm on the fence whether to assign them all together or have them meet up coincidently and just form a bond. I'm open to suggestions as well but sometimes, I take bits and pieces from suggestions. I do love any type of additional ad-libing from y'all as it creates a "living story" to me. |
