Food!!! Oh lordy do I love me some food. I love being cooked for, I love going out to eat and I love cooking.

I'll try pretty much anything at least once, cos even if I hate it I can at least justify that hatred (I'm looking at you, olives). I'm fussy with some food but not other food. Meat, for example, well, I FUCKING LOVE MEAT. I'll eat ANY animal, any at all. My only thing is that I try to take a slightly moral approach, so I won't eat things like shark fin soup, and I try to avoid battery chicken. And obviously I wouldn't go tucking into panda or tiger or northern white rhino. I do love lamb though.

Vegetables I am quite fussy with. I have a love/hate relationship with onions, in that they are absolutely necessary for a lot of dishes, but frankly if they're not being used as a base for a sauce I don't wanna know. And raw? :puke:
I also really dislike bell peppers. There are other veg I look upon with contempt but those two are the most common.

And I hate mushrooms. Seriously, they taste like soil that's been pissed on. There's no need for mushrooms.

All of those pale in comparison to my unrivalled hatred for peanut butter, which is by far the most disgusting food (for want of a better word) humans have ever created. Even the smell of it makes me retch. Seriously.

But enough of stuff I don't like, back to the awesome stuff. Other than meat, there is cheese. Oh cheese, I love you so <3 I'm particularly fond of creamy blue cheeses: roquefort, dolcelatte, gorgonzola...mmmm. And cheddar! It's considered a bit common by cheese snobs, but I love it, especially a really mature cheddar, melted on lots of toast. Mmm.

In terms of cuisine, I love Indian food, oh yes I do. Have to have at least one curry every week. I also love Italian food, and of course English grub like fry ups (about to happen!) and a roast dinner, which is something I excel at cooking - more than once my Yorkshire puddings have been greeted with the words "these are the best Y. puddings I've ever had!"

Right, that's enough talk about food, time to go eat!
That's an impressive post, BrayYellow ;)

Yes to meat! My personal stance on the morality of it is that I won't eat anything that makes me go "NOOO DON'T KILL IT". So I won't eat lamb or veal (or horse again), or fois gras because that's just fucking cruel; but pigs, cows and chickens are fine because they're idiots.

You are wrong about mushrooms. Sometimes they smell a bit cummy but they are a quality, quality food; particularly as a key ingredient in the traditional English breakfast, you absolute fucking heathen.

And Indian food. YES. I'm 99% sure that the UK has the best Indian food IN THE WORLD (having tried Indian food here, in the US, and in India). You cannot beat a decent Indian takeout. OMNOMNOM.

And just for the sake of causing some controversy, the fuck is with the food options in Florida, eh? Why is "burger and fries" listed under "snacks"? Why is EVERYTHING deep-fried? Why are the portion sizes three times what I would have at home? I enjoy an incredibly unhealthy burger now and then but after three days of fried shit I found myself almost begging for some fresh meat with some fresh vegetables.

That's certainly not the way it is throughout the US. Burger and fries is an actual meal here in Oregon!

I'm not huge on fried foods but...I'd be lying if I said I wasn't curious about deep fried oreos...

I don't fry much stuff and when I make french fries, I usually bake them. :P

I'll eat all kinds of meat. I don't really care for sentimental reasons not to kill animals for food although cannibalism is where I draw the line. There are certain organs that I would never dare eat. I've eaten things from snakes, to sea cucumber, to deer, to frogs and other random things.

what

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU_B3QNu_Ks I've tried making this actually. But with a whole tomato, cremini mushrooms and no crème fraîche.

Florida isn't really the grandest of places to eat. It's the South and it has a lot of old people. You'd think they would incorporate some Caribbean cuisine or have seafood, but nope. Cuisines I don't care for: anything in the Midwest and South. There is one exception and that's New Orleans/Cajun food. I also love Chi-town food!

----------

I'm currently playing with legumes in my cooking. Lots of black beans and pinto beans for anything Mexican. Kidney and pinto for chilis and stews, soy bean for salads.

some of the stranger items out here for the Kentucky state fair have been deep fried twinkies and donut burgers (regular burger except with Krispy Kreme donuts instead of buns). Yep, we like obesity :)

So I was chopping up some jalapenos earlier today and I didn't wash my hands thoroughly. After about 5 hours of inactivity on my left hand, it started to burn, profusely. Then I rubbed my right eye with my right hand, which apparently had hidden jalapeno juice on it as well. So my right eye burned like crazy for about 10 minutes and my left hand still feels like it's on fire.

Fuck you capsaicin. And I'm now going to pour rum on my left hand.

For those of you who say you like tex mex: How can it be any good if its not here in tex? Everywhere I have gone, any tex mex i have ever had has been sad compared to stuff here. But good texmex is amazing. As is good barbeque.

I too love meat! I am a meatitarian, and do not eat a meal unless there is some dead animal in it. I will eat just about any kind, but am partial to the stuff I shoot myself.

Mushrooms = win

Peanut butter and banana sandwiches. tastiness

hot dogs - chili and cheese OR ketchup, mustard, relish, and kraut.

Guinness can also go in the food column, it's heavy enough. I do love a good heavy, bitter stout or porter.

My folks live in Eugene. The tilamook is great.

Deep fried foods = awesome. The best? deep fried beer, available at the Texas state fair.

I love food, so this is by no means a comprehensive guide.

I too love TexMex, and hope to open my own restaurant in a few years. Beyond that, I also like spicy foods (usually the spicier the better). We have a garden with all manner of peppers, and I put fresh jalapeños in at least one thing I eat each day (that I eat at home). But I totally commiserate with the "getting it in your eye hurts" - this usually happens to me as well.

However, I do not consume any mammals. I don't consider (and therefore don't call) myself a vegetarian as I still occasionally eat poultry and fish.

I was a full vegetarian for about two years beginning in April 1996, but I couldn't sustain it - my willpower was too weak. I love(d) the taste of meat, and so I started to crave it again. When this happened, I made a deal with myself - I could go back to chicken and fish only. If I cheat on that deal, I have to go back to full avoidance.

There are a few reasons for this diet, but I'd hate to bore people with the details. Most of them are personal, and I'm not here to convert anyone. I do credit it with controlling my weight after a debilitating injury I suffered in October 1997.

Now, I am not someone who looks down my nose at anyone, you eat what you eat, I'll eat what I eat - though I do have a respect for someone who kills their own (one of my issues with meat consumption). And I never expect anyone to cater to my dietary choices. If you are having a party, fix what you want to fix as the host - I'll either find something I can eat, or I won't eat (and won't complain about my choice). Same thing with dining at a restaurant - pick where you want, and I will surely find something on the menu.

I don't care for fungus, but I do love deep fried Oreos - I get some each year at Denton's annual JazzFest and the State Fair of Texas. To me, they taste like the perfect mashup of an Oreo Donut.

Arguably Mex could do Tex Mex just as well as Tex.

@Gengo - I'd love to have a chat sometime and get more of your perspective in the food realm.

@ALL - Before I share pictures and the instructions for a homemade Cliff Bar recipe... Seeing how this is the Food thread... A)Anyone interested in swapping recipes? B)If so, just run them in this thread or preference of a Recipe thread?
