Though I prefer the Winter Olympics, I am a bit excited as festivities kick off soon.

What events are you wanting to watch? I find it very interesting that we have many nations represented at HS!

The latest in a series of screwups having to do with this year's Olympics (seems to be a pattern, unfortunately, sorry Brits):

Sadly, we don't have tv service at the moment. We *might* go get an antenna to try and pick some up.

Luckily, my most watched sport is mostly online so I should get some of it.

Anybody who didn't guess that I like FENCING the best should feel free to punch themselves in the face.

That's the only must see for me... I will never turn down a good soccer match or some beach volleyball, but otherwise, I just catch whatever I can because hey- it's the olympics.

I'm glad you brought up Fencing, per0 - when I heard that the flag-bearer for the USA was going to be a female fencer, I thought of you guys!

We are AWESOME at organising this shit. Our Olympic countdown clock (500 days to go, obviously a while ago) broke the day after it launched! :D

Anyway, I know most of us Brits are pretending that we super-care about the Olympics because we're hosting them, but personally I couldn't care less. Just not my bag I'm afraid :bag:

Looking forward to the fencing... but honestly don't care about the rest.

Rather watch curling, luge, and figure skating... I want my winter olympics!

A couple helpful and interesting sites:

London 2012 Official Site

Wikipedia's Article on London 2012

After looking at the list of sporting events, I would be interested in watching volleyball, Judo & Taekwondo, some gymnastics and track & field.

I also prefer the winter Olympics (I'm a skier/snowboarder!), but also as a track and field "veteran", the summer Olympics are just as fun to watch!

I'll probably keep an eye on the 800 meter, 3000 meter, and 5000 meter runs. Swimming is also pretty fun to watch! ;)

I'll watch the opening ceremony, and a few things here and there if I'm bored and there's nothing else on. Pretty much the same approach I have to every olympic game, in short I'll enjoy some of it. Thing is, it's not the British games, it's the London games, and if you lived in the south east it'd be pretty easy to get into the whole feel of it - bunting and flags everywhere etc, and a real vibe going on, but up north there's very little of that, which is a shame because as a result the alternative is mostly just moaning about the cost, or the security, or whatever else can be picked apart. And that really bugs me; no, I'm not overly fussed about it, but I do think it's a chance for British people to get together and celebrate something about our country. If they want. If not, fine, but there's too much negativity from those that are vocal about not wanting to. Sometimes I wonder if people actually want the country to fail at everything we do...

makes the stone go faster or change direction by slightly melting the ice / changing the friction, I think.

I'd like to see if usain bolt has anything new for us, and our top decathlete (i think) set a world record at the trials.

As Mr. Eddie Izzard said, it is a political statement, badly at the Olympics because of the national anthem. Can't play "God Save the Queen" because she's already way too saved.

The opening ceremony was AWESOME!

It also reminded me how much I love British music...

It's always cool that the host country gets to flout their history & culture at the opening ceremonies; now, if they could just collapse it down to two minutes . . .

I thought Rick Smith did a great job with the soundtrack to the opening ceremony. Of course, I've been a fan of Underworld since their Lemon Interupt days (I became aware of them near the end of 1992).
