HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

To me, history is the study of the human condition through time.

To me, it is something interesting to read. No matter how talented the writer, nobody can ever match the sheer drama that goes on in the lives of actual human beings. Look at the story of Napoleon, for example. That's like some kind of movie script, but in real life.

Constantly taking twists and turns you don't expect; I love it. History is the greatest story ever told.

Scion of the Midnight Sun

A study of past follies, in the attempt at widespread self betterment. Kind of a single person's growth, but for a region or country.

And yes. History is the greatest story ever.
History book>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Bible in terms of Epicness.
"There are strange things done in the midnight sun,
by the men who moil for gold; the arctic trails have their secret tales that'd make your blood run cold...
the Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see...
was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge, that I cremated Sam McGee."

History is awesome. History is better than any novel (probably) and it can inform you about the modern world, and helps you in many other areas of life. History is awesome. /thread.

This post pretty much sums it up for me.

History is the record of human falleness, but supplies a shimer of light reflecting the greater light to come that allows us to recognize darkness.
"Because a girl should have long hair, she should have clean hair; because she should have clean hair, she should not have an unclean home; because she should not have an unclean home, she should have a free and leisured mother; because she should have a free mother, she should not have an usurious landlord; because there should not be a usurious landlord, there should be a redistribution of property; because there should be a redistribution of property, there shall be a revolution." -G. K. Chesterton

It's stuff that happened, that makes us insight if we analyze it correctly, but also can laugh back at us if we don't learn from it.

History is a way for people to learn from others' mistakes, and create a world better for human civilization. As I have told Computerwiz3, History is not a subject, but rather a teacher in disguise.
"No, to understand who a person really was, what his or her life really meant, the Speaker for the Dead would have to explain their self-story -- what they meant to do, what they actually did, what they regretted, what they rejoiced in. That's the story we never know, the story that we never can know -- and yet, at the time of death, is the only story truly worth telling."
-Orson Scott Card, "Speaker for the Dead"

History should be forgotten. We should repeat our mistakes, instead of learning from them. Otherwise, we'll soon find ourselves in a world where everyone and everything is perfect. And, in my opinion, perfection is the biggest of flaws.

This is a sign from God. He's giving us the solution to our problem: Kill more people.

And how do we kill more people? We increase the defense budget, which is exactly what Obama's gonna do.

Man, that Obama guy really is the Messiah.
