HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

Go Dutchie go!
Ohh it's also called the Dutch Empire!

Ehm the 15th century can also be the Portuguese hegemony just as the 18th century is half French.

But I'm cool with the rest :)

Damn that's why we speak English over here. Only because of 3 centuries of English speaking dominance...

21st- China.
The heart should only exist to pump blood to the brain and rest of the body anything else is a waste of time and energy.

Love and Hate are only impediments to the human condition.

Imagine what could be accomplished if only the human race could shed our humanity.

When the facts change, my mind changes. What do you do, sir?

What has China ever done in the 21st century? They've never even been out of their borders. Except for fighting Somalian pirates.

Well considering the 21st century has only gone on for nine years now...

I doubt China is going to be the most dominant. The U.S. or Russia will beat them to it.

Also Max, I meant to say Dutch Empire, but...bleh...I'll change that.

Anyone else have any opinions of their own over the time period? That was kind of the point of the thread.

I have to dispute about China. They were powerful, yes, but they ruled in near-isolation and had very little to worry about in the way of invaders. Whenever they did have someone invade them or at least attempt to, they buckled relatively quickly.

Like, get with the times, man. Dude, the world doesn't revolve around conquering empires, like, it's all about trade. Why do you think the US is, like, the most powerful country on earth yet it's only ever owned some crappy islands and the Phillipines (more crappy islands?)

And 'demption, I'm gonna have to disagree with your nations. Some were powerful, but I wouldn't go as far to say that they "dominante powers." In fact, real world powers only really started to come about in the 16th Century (aside from a few Superpowers *cough*Rome*cough*)

I'm gonna have to say:
10th - Caliphate of Bagdad. In general the whole Arab world, but if you had to pick one you might as well go with there powercentre :\
11th - Hmmm... tough one. Can't really say, as the world was too divided back then. I'm gost gonna go with Redemption as say Rus'.
12th - Again, the world was too divided, but I'd probably say China. The Tang dynasty (I think it was the Tang) was hugely wealthy and prosperous.
13th - This is where things start to get intersting! :D I'm gonna say Mongols too, because they were a flucking power to be reckoned with!
14th - Bah, too much happening in the world  I'm gonna say the Papal States, for they basically controlled Europe's Kings and Lord's.
15th - The South-East Asian Empire of Pagan!! :P Nah I dunno.
16th - The Mughal Empire/The Spanish/The Ottomans. Those Indians sure were dedicatted, and well the Spanish? They were just pricks <_< The Ottos were doing awesome, on the other hand.
17th - Spanish/Portugal/France (King Louis XVI, anyone?)/The Ottomans I can't say Dutch for I don't know how much they owned, but they probably were quite powerful.
18th - *Yawn* Here we go, the British. Plus the Dutch.
19th - France, Russia, Britain. The Brits still had their good old world Empire, the French conquered half of Europe and the Russians had some serious manpower.
First Half 20th - Germany, Japan, America, Britain, USSR For obvious Reasons :P
Second Half 20th - USSR, USA Global Thermonuclear Holocaust FTW!
21st - I really don't know. Rwanda is starting to make istelf known though :P

Well you can't really have any globally dominant power until the discovery of the Americas by Europeans in 1492, because no other country or empire was powerful enough to have it's influence felt all over the world. Up until the discovery of the Americas, China was the richest nation on Earth, and was the original goal of Christopher Columbus and friends.
