HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

I found the old atlas of my greatgrandmother(produced in 1897), my grandmother(produced in 1939) and the atlas of my both parents. It really looks cool to see how the maps were made(in the atlast of 1897 there were more maps of ancient times. I made a few pictures of maps, here are some pictures of USA, North America and the world.

I can tell it's old because there's no Yukon in Canada on that map. That's definitely pre-1898 if was contemporary.

I don't know about maps, but I used to have a really old globe. It still had the USSR on it. Sure, maybe it doesn't sound so old, but it still had Korea. Single. Not plural. And it also still has lots of countries listed as part of the British Empire, including Canada. So it must have been from somewhere between 1917 and 1931.

Don't you know, the Commies only staged the collapse of the USSR, and since America has the #1 Education system in the world they are telling only the truth to their students :USA: :USA:

Scion of the Midnight Sun

0.2 HDI points behind Canada.
And considering it's measured in decimals like 0.3 and 1.0.....
"There are strange things done in the midnight sun,
by the men who moil for gold; the arctic trails have their secret tales that'd make your blood run cold...
the Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see...
was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge, that I cremated Sam McGee."

Well maybe I can read it a bit better,

Map 1:
Big Nevada so no California etc.
At the place of Oklahoma you see Indianen territorium what means Native American territory.
Other things like no North and South Dekota.
Dominion of Canada.

Map 2:
You see things like Ottoman empire and New-Holland(Australia).

Map 3:
Dominion of Australia.

@Jack: Yes, we also got a few Cold War maps, I think because those big maps are very expensive.

Who cares about "education"? The only things people need to learn are fighting and love.

I seriously doubt being a math genius would help me if my family and I were being attacked by terrorists.

If you're going to be a barbarian, maybe. Otherwise? Yeah, you should definitely get an education. Even a rudimentary one.
