HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

I seriously doubt being a math genius would help me if my family and I were being attacked by terrorists.

Maybe not, but he would supply the mathematical economic theories which is then applied to the government Capitalist system, directly affecting the flow of capital to-and-from economic sourcepoints.

Just watch A Beautiful Mind for fluff's sake!

P.S. You're too paranoid about terrorists. I don't know the stats, but you're probably 10,000 times more likely to die being hit by a car than in a terrorist attack <_<

The terrorist thing was just an example. It could be anything else, from thieves to mafias.

And I don't think we really need to spend as much as we do on "science". I mean, I'm all for progress and all that, but frankly, enough is enough. We don't need to spend trillions of dollars buildings satellites that don't do anything useful. Heck, with just 5 billion dollars you can feed every poor person in India for a whole year.

How come I've never had a problem with terrorism and theives, and nor has any I've ever known? And I lived 10 years in the states...

Scion of the Midnight Sun

I've never had a problem with any of those, and I'm a canadian youth in a shitty neighbourhood who's lived there 15 years................

So, to the both of you:
Ha.
"There are strange things done in the midnight sun,
by the men who moil for gold; the arctic trails have their secret tales that'd make your blood run cold...
the Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see...
was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge, that I cremated Sam McGee."

Who cares about "education"? The only things people need to learn are fighting and love.

National security > Useless "science"

Sometimes useless science is good for national security. For instance, all computing is based on mathematics. That means all critical information that is encrypted is protected by complex, ever changing algorithms.

Math plays a big role in everything, it's actually pretty interesting. And I don't mean that math is involved in throwing a baseball or something ridiculous like that. I mean that complex math is used in a lot of jobs. Did you know that being a person who designs boxes requires lots of math? Boxes! You need to know lots of specific mathematics that relate to volume and area so that you can design boxes with maximum volume to strength (cardboard strength related to area) ratios.

I would like to re-use my quote that Parasky sigged. Just replace "education" and "get an education" with "science" and "use science," respectively.
