HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

Key word: Belief.

I knew I should have avoided that term.
You know what I mean....

And even if global warming is a hoax, I still feel pursuing environmental measures would be a good idea, as we still do a shitload to screw this planet up.

That's what I like Suzuki for.

The proposed solutions to global warming don't actually do anything to protect the environment. I fail to see how increasing taxes and limiting growth would help anyone or anything.

Ummmm? What about less CO2 emissions proposals? Protecting "green" zones? etc...

Why is it that when you think in what are the lefties going to do concerning global warming, you immediately think those damn liberals won't do anything but take your precious money?

QUICK QUESTION: Dragon, do you believe that we, as humans, have any effect on the environment at all? And if we do, that we should do the most to reduce it??

Because the cap-and-trade bill includes a tax...

That's a fact, Ivan.

Well, anything can be considered part of the environment. People dumping trash in a town is considered polluting the environment. What's your point?

And is that why you oppose the whole global warming thing? Wow, that's just... sad...

Ok, how bout Natural environment? Like, forests or the ocean? For example, what are your thoughts on the deforestation of the Amazon?

Well..... American legislators aren't very good at solving problems then, it seems.
As for the rest of the world, we're trying to take steps to improve environmental standards, and a natural offshoot of what should be done for this is environmentalism.
"There are strange things done in the midnight sun,
by the men who moil for gold; the arctic trails have their secret tales that'd make your blood run cold...
the Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see...
was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge, that I cremated Sam McGee."

No, it's why I oppose the "solutions" to global warming that some people are trying to impose on America.

Environmentalists are like watermelons. Green on the outside, red on the inside.

It might be a problem, but isn't it Brazil's problem?

As far as political borders and responsibilities go, yes, but the deforestation of the Amazon is a far bigger problem than for just Brazil. The Amazon provides over a fifth of the world's oxygen, so obviously less Amazon = less oxygen = less breathing air. What do you think about this?

Invade Brazil, plant a tree in place of every tree cut.
