HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

A left-wingy defending a monarch and a right-wingy criticizing it?
Wow... o_O
I'm right wing. And I think the Royal Family has just as much support on both left and right wing sides over here.

That's not the only thing she is doing.

But I don't know why I'm discussing this with you. I bet you don't even know her name :hmm:

I think all that kings and queens are good for are smiling and waving, making a few token speeches every now and then and inspiring national pride, but if a people enjoy having them and they're doing nothing wrong, then there's no reason to abolish them.
You mean aside from saving millions of taxpayer money?

Why would I know her name? Every one probably just calls her "The Queen." :P

Yes, I know that monarchies are expensive to maintain, and to me personally I don't see the attraction in them, but the fact they remain popular in European nations means that if the European people want them, then let them have them.

How popular are they truly? I don't know, and I can't say. But there hasn't really been much talk of abolishing them, and currently as it stands republicans are a small minority.

Yep, the monarchs still have their power from God, officially.

And only the Dutch euro has on the side of the coin "God zij met ons" (May God be with us). Like we had on our Gulden :)
