HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

It's not touché either. I believe the correct spelling is "touch". (/sarcasm)

I don't know about darkness, but my school has had four snow days this year. Understand, this is a lot considering I have never once in my twelve years of attending school had a snow day in this city. Ever.

Also 3:19? Hah! I get out at 2:05...And I don't even have to come till 10:50! :P

I start at 7:30 A.M. :(

I finish at either 3:00 or 2:00 P.M. :S

Also, no snow days. Ever. We still get 2-1 weeks of vacations because most Mexicans are very fanatic about Christmas and, ussually, make a lot of related parties.

It depends on my schedule but I mostly start at 8.30 too. And I finished school somewhere around 15:00h.

I have to say, having very few classes isn't nearly as awesome as it seems. Only being at school for three hours makes it really hard to get motivated and do stuff, because, well, by the time I get there it's almost time to go.

@Legend: I find the interface a lot more intuitive. It's also much faster than the other browsers.

How it works here:

Note: High schools get to choose what times they open and leave, they just have to have a certain number of instructional hours in each subject per year.

Block 1 8:45 a.m. to 10:06 a.m.
Block 2 10:16 a.m. to 11:37 a.m.

Lunch 11:37 a.m. to 12:27 p.m.

Block 3 12:27 p.m. to 1:48 p.m.
Block 4 1:58 p.m. to 3:19 p.m.

Ten minute break between the blocks, too.

Courses are divided between alternating days, known as Day One, and Day Two, interesting given the creativity the Board is famous for in their naming process.

In terms of holidays:
Christmas, Remembrance, Thanksgiving, Family day, any Professional Development days (when the teachers get schooled in the newest sensations for teaching), Teacher's Convention (like the previous one, but it's more conventiony, with booths), New years (a part of the Christmas break, 2 weeks), Good monday, Good Friday, 2 weeks for Spring, 3 months for summer, And then just some other days, Victoria day, etc etc.

For courses:

D1
Quote:

Block 1: Spanish 20
Block 2: English 20AP
Block 3: Social 20AP
Block 4: Mathematics 20 Pure

D2
Quote:

Block 1: Spanish 20
Block 2: Chemistry 20AP
Block 3: Biology 30AP
Block 4: Mathematics 20 Pure

I'll be going to my school's AP conference soon.

H Canada’s Military Mission in Afghanistan: Time Well Spent?
Graham Thomson was embedded with Canadian troops for two tours in
Afghanistan. He will explain the complexities and challenges of Canada’s ongoing
mission there. So far, this mission has cost the lives of 140 Canadian soldiers. Is
it worth this sacrifice? Can the mission succeed? Graham Thomson will address
these and other questions.
Graham Thomson
• writes on political issues for the Edmonton
Journal
• winner of a National Newspaper Award for
excellent reporting
• recipient of a B'nai Brith award for human rights
reporting

J The Reordering of Time during the French Revolution
The French Revolution became most radical during its republican phase (1792-
1794). The French republicans carried out a de-Christianization campaign and
imposed a new calendar on France. Professor Caradonna will explain the
reasons behind the republican calendar and connect it to other radical measures
of the time—including the Terror.
Dr. Jeremy Caradonna
• assistant professor, Department of History and
Classics
• areas of expertise include the Old Regime, the
Enlightenment, the French Revolution, and Environmental History

There are more, I just C&P'd the ones I'd be doing.
There's also a Keynote address by Bob MacDonald, Host of CBC's Quirks and Quarks, an internationally renowned scientific journalist.

I also get free lunch :D

Some of the Other options:
Aboriginal Edmonton Through Time - Dr. Dwayne Donald
Carbon Capture: An Idea Whose Time has Come? - Graham Thompson
Exploring Time Through Literature - Laurie Greenwood
How Nationalism Reconstructs Time - Dr. John-Paul Himka
Diverging Cultural Perceptions of Time - Dr. Olenka Bilash
Changing Perceptions of Human Rights over Time - Dr. Tom Keating
Time Management - Dr. Billy Strean (He's also a stand up comic)
The Physics of Time - Dr. Gerhard Lotz

I don't want to include too much stuff, as I don't want people googling my school :(
They all have considerable academic merits though.

But :omg: , your schedule is so complicated. All those subjects per period and al those weird times. Why did they took 10:06 a.m and not just 10:10? And you have a 50 min lunch break, I only get 30 minutes :O

My schedule looks like this, but keep in mind that I don't have so many lessons because it's my final year.

1st hour 8:30-9:20
2nd hour 9:20-10:10
pauze 10:10-10:30
3rd hour 10:30-11:20
4th hour 11:20-12:10
pauze 12:10-12:40
5th hour 12:40-13:30
6th hour 13:30-14:20
5 min break 14:20-14:25
7th hour 14:25-15:15
8th hour 15:15-16:05

Think that's bad max? That's just my second semester.(I've already finished one).
Due to the way it worked out, the only difference is my first block was multimedia daily and my fourth was computer science daily.

As for the times, it is so we can start later. That, and having classes longer than an hour or so kind of wears on our attention spans. Just how everything works out.

My school's schedule is pretty much structured just like Max's, except we don't have a five minute break later in the day and we only have seven hours.

You guys are all weird. My structure is really easy - three 40-minute periods in the morning (usually two classes,) recess for 20 mins, then another three 40-minute periods, then lunch for 55 mins, and finally either one, two or three 40-minute periods.
