HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

Several nominees for the prestigious 2010 prize, which was awarded last year to President Obama, surfaced on Wednesday in news reports. Among them: “The Internet” and, separately, several of the Web’s creators, including Larry Roberts, Vint Cerf and Tim Berners-Lee, who is pictured above.

If one of those guys wins, it’s pretty clear who would receive the award.

But if the Internet wins? No one seems to know what would happen then. Maybe give it to Al Gore?

The Internet’s credentials aren’t bad. Recently, it helped speed relief efforts to Haiti and organized protesters in Iran. Wired Magazine in Italy, which has been advocating for the nomination, says it spreads “dialogue, debate and consensus.”

I heard about that. What's with the deal with all of these inanimate object or a collective winning prizes all of a sudden? I mean, I remember a few years ago TIME's Person of the Year went to "You," and now all of a sudden a collection of data is being nominated the world Peace Prize.

I think it's just a dumb cover-up for a lack of actual candidates and most likely just an attempt to get more interest in it. I mean, Obama last year? Really?

It's gone to hell.
They have plenty of good Candidates, like Abdul Sattar Edhi.

by the men who moil for gold; the arctic trails have their secret tales that'd make your blood run cold...
the Northern Lights have seen queer sights, but the queerest they ever did see...
was that night on the marge of Lake LeBarge, that I cremated Sam McGee."

How can you give an award to an inanimate network of computers?

Well, they've given the 'peace' prize to a terrorist before, so this is hardly unprecedented.

Yea. The Nobel has gone straight to hell for pretty much anything.
