HISTORY IN THE MAKING 2008-2016

Good luck!

We've spent a good many years discussing politics, life, society and history. Most of all, the makers of history. The great events that changed the world - people, places, actions. Small acts have changed its hard-worn course, and effort and circumstance can make of its small actors immortal greats. In line with that sentiment, it seems pertinent now to recognize the potential of those who've made up this community for years, obvious through their contributions to the spirited debate and discussion that has proceeded here. HITM has sadly gone silent, though perhaps not lacking for things to say about making history, but rather for the realization that it is time we all commenced to do so, and make our mark.

Good luck to you all, see you in the history books!

Dunno, I just personally liked this news article because I am also sick of hearing everyday about the scandals of the sex life of Tiger woods on Euronews and Televisa (mexican news).

To be fair, it's probably just a beat up of Western media and how it focuses too much on pop culture (which I can agree with to an extent.)

Plus, also, to put frankly, it's 'cause us in the West really do not give a shit about some famines in a foreign continent or some minor clashes between two warring ethnic groups. It just seems that it happens all the time, every year, and no matter people's best and noble intentions to stop these things from happening, the problems still exist and are apparently spiralling out of control and spinning out of proportion and it gets worse and worse (if you believe the hype.)

I mean, why should we care? Should we feel bad that some people out there are dying? That it seems that countless billions of other humans are suffering, with only more and more bad shit happening over and over again? Do not get me wrong. It is terrible. It is a tragic loss of life, and if anything at all could be done to avoid it, in the short and long terms, then by all means prevent it from happening. But, why should we have to acknowledge that these things happen? Death is the inevitable truth of nature.

Agree, Laz. But I just don't see why and how are scandals about the sexual life of celebrities to be any better.
Using your logic, that also happens all the time.
Sorry, but, I would prefer that this kind of news are made more public and the media stops focusing so much in "pop culture".

I'm going to post an article about donating aid to African countries and why it doesn't work, but my back hurts right now, so I'll go for a walk and post it when I come back.
