Design fault in Hobby caravans?

In recent correspondence with a Hobby owner I was advised on how to rectify a design fault in Hobby caravans. Apparently there is a tendency for water to penetrate at the junction of the rear wall and the floor - can anyone throw some light on this since I do not have the problem in my Hobby.

I would have thought Hobby would have corrected this design fault by now. Would anyone know if they have and if so when?

The only "design fault" as you seem intent on calling it is the weather and mother nature for allowing trees etc to grow.
In a perfect world, the drains are more than adequate but it is when they become partially or fully obscured by leaves etc that the problem may, or will manifest itself.

In the bigger picture, "faults" in Hobby caravans pale into insignificance compared to UK built vans.

Something should have done along time ago about this problem..leaves and debris are a part of the problem, the other is the fact that the rear back panel of the van is nipped up tight to the floor and should have spacers fitted between the panel and the floor to avoid water transfer..many owners have done this mod and it works fine..I did mine and it does work

I kicked this off in 2004 about this problem..Look at the link below, it outlines the problem we have known about for years

I have to correct 'Brecon' who appears to think that this is not a 'design fault' by Hobby. From what I have read here about this problem it would seem that it has been in existence for several years and that it is fairly widespread in Hobby caravans. Caravan designers are well aware of the problem of water penetration by capillary action and if this is what is occuring with Hobby caravans their designers should have corrected the problem by now. Hence my earlier question. To blame the weather is nonsense. Shouldn't Hobby be issuing a recall for all those models which have this problem ? And by 'recall' I mean that Hobby should be agreeing to bear any remedial costs irrespective of whether the caravan has been regularly serviced ? Servicing the caravan each year would only have identified the problem not cured it.

It's definitely a design fault without a doubt..The problem as I have describe it is that nobody knows until it's too late..If you get water marks on the wall and back panel inside the van under the seating area then it's way way too late...I would really like to know how many Hobby owners out there have this problem but are unaware of it..All Hobby's will eventually suffer from this, I saw it recently in a 2006 model but it was in the early stages

Two ways to check for this

1. Put a hammer under the van about 8 inches from a corner..Tap the underfloor of the van and as you do so move the hammer slowly towards the corner, if there is a problem you will notice that the sharp tapping sound changes to a dull thud, indicating that the wood is soft and rotten

2. Stick your finger under the corner of the van and scratch at the wood with your finger nail, in no time at all you will have a hole in the floor

Have just checked my Hobby 400SF - 2002. Everything is solid as a rock both inside under the rear seat and out. Was this a problem with more recent vans?

It's a problem with vans of all years because of the somewhat suspect drainage sytem at the corners
