Attention: Must Read!

Posted by Acacia Walker (Admin) at Jul 11 2008, 08:17 PM. 0 comments

As you may have noticed, there's been a certain degree of inactivity on Hogwarts: The Legend. The administrators have decided that the board needs a complete revamp, and took it a step further by moving Hogwarts: The Legend entirely. Please welcome (drum roll please!) HOGWARTS: THE LEGEND version 2.0.

Now, there are some changes on this site. For example: there's a post length of 150 words, we have a beautiful canon list, certain character ideas are banned, etc. If you aren't satisfied with any of the changes, or feel that you can't meet certain requirements, keep in mind the admins are here to help you along.

Your first step would be to read over the rules, and then you can follow up by filling out a new application. It shouldn't be too hard, considering you've been RPing your characters for a while now, and you should have a good grasp of them. While we won't be closing Hogwarts: The Legend version 1.0, and while you aren't required to come to version 2.0, it'd be preferred.

See you there!

Whoa I have to say that I have been out of it for a bit that I did not even notice that this site has been going for more than a year now. thanks guys for keeping with the site and making it last this long. I know that it will keep on lasting and being the great place that it is.

ACTIVITY CHECK

Posted by Vidanric Blackwood (Admin) at Feb 13 2008, 01:16 AM. 0 comments

So, as you guys can all see: activity on the site has been an all-time low. I would rather not see a site die that I have been with since the beginning. Since April of last year I have been a member of this site; and been an admin for nearly as long. Maybe it is my fault the site is lacking, since I have rarely been an active admin unless a site make-over is taking place. I have a rather busy schedule, and I understand that you all do as well. However, I would love to bring this site back to life. I will keep this up for three days without sending out an email to members; that way we can see who really is still active.

Please fill out the following form:

I must just say thanks to Paige who created some of the graphics on this site. She runs another site called Silverstone, which is also a great site, and yeah I am advertising here for her a bit but I just had to say thank you to her.

Hogsmeade Permission Slips

Posted by Rachel (Headmistress) at Nov 1 2007, 02:57 PM. 0 comments

Okay if you intend on RPing in Hogsmeade, please make sure that you have a permission slip which you can get from my office. If you are caught RPing without one you will get detention :D

Thanks

Roleplay Tips

Posted by Kassandra Phillips (Ravenclaw) at Jun 22 2007, 04:00 AM. One comment

Note: All these ideas are not completely mine, though I did add and edit many things. Also, please reply and let me know if these are in anyway useful.

This is just a short guide with helpful hints for roleplaying. It can help both new members or those who are relatively new to roleplaying.

1. When posting use more descriptive words (adjectives, adverbs, etc.). Words like these help create a more dramatic and descriptive effect. For example:

A boring sentence:
Kasey ran through the forest. She thought someone was after her.

An Interesting Sentence (Note descriptive words):
As Kasey ran through the trees, she couldn't shake the feeling that something...or worse, someone might be after her.

2. Use words that are less common/fancy words. Big words when used correctly will help to prove a point (and can always impress) For example:

Common Words:
Kasey flew on her broom smiling with confidence as though she was the best.

Fancier Words:
A bold smirk was fluttering across her lips, as Kasey flew on her broom. It was as though she were the epitome of all quidditch players at Hogwarts.

3. Use of pronouns is great. Instead of constantly talking in 3rd person and using your character's name or he/she, try using some of these to fit you characters personality:

-The (your house) girl/boy
(ex. The Ravenclaw girl smiled, lying back on the damp grass.)
-The (quidditch position)
(ex. The Gryffindor seeker dove down the center of the pitch.)
-The (Ethnicity) girl
(ex. The Chinese girl cried as she heard of her father's death.)
Feel free to brainstorm and come up with your own

4. Not as important, but when posting a topic, please CAPITALIZE it.
Bad topic title:
life under water

Good Topic Title:
Life Under Water

5. People have many different ways of writing but we highly recomend that you roleplay in 3rd person, past tense.

1st Person, Past Tense:
I walked down the hallway, "Wow, it's so empty," I said to myself.
2nd Person, Past Tense:
You walked down the hallway, "Wow, it's so empty," You said to yourself.

3rd Person, Past Tense:
Kasey walked down the hallway, "Wow, it's so empty," she said to herself.

6. Take time to write a long descriptive post instead of something short. You want the person you are RPing with to have something to write about!

Bad Post:
"Hey," Miley said to the guy next to her, "Aren't you having too many drinks?"

Good Post:
It was quiet out during the summer and Miley had nothing to do. Her mother had gone to the States for some important business so Miley was staying at her house along with her brother.

It was late at night but Miley wanted to get out of the house. It was around 12:00 pm when she left but it took her about an hour to reach the Three Broomsticks. She quickly went to the counter and ordered a butterbeer hoping that she would stay in control.

She took several sips of her butterbeer and looked around to see if there were any seats open. She heard a boy asking for something stronger and she looked to her side. It seemed the boy was just a bit older than her. She wasn't sure if he went to hogwarts, but she could tell if he did, he was a slytherin. She sighed and looked at the boy wondering if he was crazy, he already looked extremely drunk.

Some MUST HAVES for a good Roleplayer:

1. Grammer! Omg. I can't stress how important grammer is. Everyone makes mistakes and it's understandable, but please try to go over and fix mistakes once in a while. I might not be the best roleplayer but bad grammer is one of my pet peeves. So please proofread posts before you add them.

Make sure that your sentences are able to be clearly understood. (Capitals and periods are also a great idea! Use them!) If you're having a hard time with spelling you can always copy and paste your post into a word editing program and fix your errors (spell check on Word) before you post them on the forum (This saves others the trouble of deciphering what you‘ve posted.).

2. Please..PLEASE, use punctuation and quotation marks!!! End all of your sentences with the proper pieces of punctuation. Questions end with questions marks. You all know that though, right?

Poorly Constructed Sentence:

yea kasey said with a laugh i would love to go to hogsmeade with you she smiled and started off for the door she turned and waited for him to catch up to her it was going to be a fun night she thought.

The sentence above is awful, no horrible. It will guarantee that no one will want to RP with you...EVER.

Try something better...

Well Written Sentence:
"Yeah," Kasey said with a laugh. "I would love to go to Hogsmeade with you." She smiled and started off for the door. She turned and waited for him to catch up to her. It was going to be a fun night, she thought.

Those are just a few helpful tips. Please take them into consideration the next time you reply to a topic or post a new one. Thanks!

Your Admin and fellow roleplayer,
~Cait
